HRP may be defined as the development


of comprehensive staffing strategy for
meeting the organization's future
human needs.
Its helps management find the right
people for the right jobs at the right
time.
Recruitment

Recruitment is the process of searching for


prospective employee and stimulating them
to apply for jobs in the organization. It is often
termed “ positive” in that its objective is to
increase the selection ratio, the number of
applicants per job opening.
Selection

Selection :
on the other hand its “ Negative”. Its involves
screening and appraising these applicants and
rejecting those who are unsuited for the jobs
to be filled.

1. Internal Sources
2. External Sources

Internal Sources : It refers to present working


force of a company. In the event of vacancy
existing employees may be promoted,
transferred or demoted.

Advantages of Internal Sources
1. If there are reductions in the work force pending
any of the Departments, this policy can help to
prevent employees lay-off
2. The use of internal sources can be beneficial to
employee morale, particularly when a vacancy
permits a promotion to be granted.
3. A company generally is better acquainted with
the strengths and weakness of its own
employees than it is with those of applicants
from outside
Advantages of Internal Sources

4. Since a company has a certain training


investment in its employees, it is to the
company's advantage to try to gain the best
possible return from this investment by
utilizing the services of its personnel in the
highest level.
Disadvantages of Internal Sources
1. In some instances, qualified replacement may
not be available within the company to fill
certain vacancies.

1. The hiring of certain experienced personnel


from other companies is sometimes desirable in
order to gain new technical information or
industrial know- how. Outsiders also may bring
new ideas and enthusiasm into the company,
and help to revitalize it .
Disadvantages of Internal Sources
3. The excessive use of internal sources can
shelter employees from the Competition of
outside applicants who may have superior
qualifications. If employees must compete
only with their co-workers in gaining
advancement , the quality of the company
performance may suffer in the process.
