PANATHENAIC STADIUM
Fast forward a few millennia and you will find yourself at the Panathenaic
Stadium, also known as the “Kallimarmaro” Stadium, made entirely of marble.
It was built in 330BC and it was the venue to host the Zappas Olympics in
1870 and 1875 as well as the first Modern Olympic Games of 1896.
TEMPLE OF ZEUS
The temple is one of the largest temples in antiquity (6th century BC), with 15
of its 104 columns still standing. According to the traveler Pausanias, it was
built by Deucalion, a mythical ancestor of Greeks. Several attempts to build the
temple were made until it took its final form in 31 BC by the Roman Emperor
Hadrian.

TEMPLE OF POSEIDON - SOUNION

At the tip of Cape Sounio – about 50 kilometres

south of the Hotel – sits the Temple of Poseidon,
dating back to 440 BC, dedicated to the God of
the Sea.

handmade souvenirs, clothes and painting.
A rewarding part of the city for daytime wandering is the neighborhood of Plaka
- also known as “the neighborhood of the Gods” - one of the most alluring and
cosy districts in Athens with its winding streets and nicely restored neoclassical
houses. On the top of Plaka, you can explore “Anafiotika”, a tiny, scenic little
neighborhood at the foothills of the Acropolis and a little hidden gem built in the
early 19th century.

LYCABETTUS HILL
Lycabettus Hill rises 277 meters above the city and offers a great opportunity to
take in panoramic views on an invigorating walk. You may trek to the top,
otherwise you can hop on the funicular cable train that will take you all the way to
the top in under five minutes.
There are no views from inside the carriage but it all awaits you at the top, where
you will also find the charming St George Greek Orthodox church and some of
the best views of Athens. Food and drink facilities are available.
Time the visit for sunset to get a spectacular 360° view of the city below!
NATIONAL GARDERN
National Gardens is probably the most well-known and favorite park for
locals, a public park of 15.5 hectares in the center of Athens, created and
designed by Queen Amalia in the 19th century.
Located in the heart of the city, just behind the Greek Parliament and the
central square of Syntagma and in between the famous monuments of the
Zappeion and the Panathenaic Stadium - first Olympic Stadium, the National
Gardens are the ultimate paradise in the center of the city, home to more
than 500 different species of plants, trees, birds and animals. National
Gardens is also the perfect spot to go for a picnic, go for a jog, or discover
the duck ponds.
