Why Recreation and Leisure are Important, Beneficial for Humans

The word leisure is defined as free time to do something of enjoyment. There are several ways a

person can find free time. Reading a good book, going to the gym, playing a game of chess or taking time

to meditate all of these can be considered leisure time. The importance of leisure time for the human

body cannot be under stated. Leisure time has health benefits that have been proven like lowering

blood pressure, lowering stress levels and decreasing body fat. An active person that spends time doing

recreational activities has fewer doctor visits, less depression and an overall healthy lifestyle.

enjoyment the activity will bring pleasure. The final way is a state of mind. The mind set of doing

something fun filled and taking time to care for yourself provides a sense of evenness an boost the ego.

Leisure activities and recreational events put the individual in control of how their time is spent.

It also decreases the feeling of being overwhelmed. Physically active people tend to have increased
sh

muscle strength and growth, more flexible and lower cholesterol levels than people that are less active.

A less active person has a higher chance to get sick with diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular disease

and maybe even cancer. A physically inactive person will have a decreased quality of life.
