Lesson 5: Quiz

Essay: Answer in 100 words, compare and contrast globalism and internationalism

Globalism is a worldwide movement aimed at improving economic, financial, and

communication systems through collaboration between the public and private sectors. It is vital
to ensure economic prosperity while also addressing humanity's growing global problems and
challenges. It has contributed significantly to economic growth and wealth creation, but it has
also created socioeconomic inequalities.

A company's efforts to conduct business in one or more foreign nations are referred to as
internationalism, enables us to manufacture goods or provide services capable of entering
international markets and meeting globally acknowledged standards. Internationalism entails
expanding one's business and entering multiple countries' markets. It is the process through
which a company, firm, or individual expands and becomes a part of another country, whether
for good supply, client base, or other demand fulfillment. It is mainly concerned with the
collaboration that occurs between areas and their progress toward a common objective because it
is the many countries that seek cooperation through this process.

Identified Issue/Challenge in Global Governance: International Migration

International migration is one of the issues/challenges here in the Philippines, as well as a

problem in other countries. People migrate for a variety of reasons, the most common of which is
to travel and live in a place where they believe their lives would be better or to be with family
and friends in another country. Another reason is to escape political conflict and persecution, or
even war, in which families are threatened. Lastly, when a disaster strikes, it harms humans and
capital, resulting in the loss of homes or livelihoods and lowering labor productivity.
Strength:

 Filipino professionals who have migrated are skilled and talented, and the government is
proud to export its labor.
 Migration can benefit the country’s economic and social development

Weaknesses:

 The unavailability of employment opportunities in the Philippines is frequently cited as a

cause for migrants and potential migrants to choose to work overseas.
 The Philippines' unemployment situation includes an abundance of workers with general
skills, particularly among young people
 There is a lack of migrant protection, human rights, and long-term migration alternatives.

Opportunities:

 Migrants can raise their income, learn new skills, and save and invest more money by
working in another country.
 These remittances aid the country's internal consumption and growth, as well as
providing a safety net against regional economic changes.
 Families support migration because they will benefit directly from the gains generated by
OFWs, and lifting families out of poverty benefits the government because it minimizes
the problems that poverty entails

Threats:

 Migrants are still subjected to exploitation and abuse, including as contract breaches,
sexual harassment, violence, and discrimination.
 Racism and cultural differences
 Language barriers
