3. BOWLERS.
4. ALLROUNDERS.
5. CONCLUSION.

INTRODUCTION:

As the ICC T20 World Cup is on the horizon, we are performing the
following analysis for the selection of the Indian cricket team. The
following analysis is based upon statistics from the last three years
(2019,2020,2021) IPL matches played by the top-performing Indian
players.
The players for batting are weighed upon their average runs scored in the
last three years along with their highest scores, strike rate and consistencies
in their respective matches.
The bowlers are selected based upon their average number of wickets,
economy and number of wickets in the matches played in the respective
years.
All-rounders are charged upon their high scores, average scores, strike rate,
number of wickets, economy, etc.
We are in need of 7 batsmen, 7 bowlers and 2 all-rounders. The task is to
find the required players from pile of data provided using tools such as
mean, median, mode, standard deviation and with the help of charts and
graphs for better understanding.

Tools used:

Average –The average is calculated by the sum of averages of all three

years divided by a number of years Formula:

Inconsistency- inconsistency is calculated using standard deviation formula

to find the players who or not consistent in their respective years. Formula:

Page 2|9
BATSMEN:
The following data consist of the top seven batsmen from the IPL seasons 2019,
2020, and 2021.

The above chart shows that the average transit scored by the players the matches played in
the respective here’s another cumulative average over the three years it also gives the
inconsistency of the players which is calculated by standard deviation.
CALCULATION :
Arithmatic Mean of Shikhar Dhawan = Sum of the rums of three years
Total matches played – not outs

= 521 + 618 + 380 1519 42.2

41-5 36

Standard Deviation of Shikhar Dhawan =

= 205.7 68.56

The following chart shows us the average and inconsistencies of the players with a single
glance at them.

INTERPRETATION
The inconsistency in batting shows that Shreyas Iyer, Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant,3 are
more reliable on the higher end whereas another batsman like Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul
has higher inconsistency rate of 8.3 and 5.7 which is not reliable, on the basis of consistency.
While on the average chart KL Rahul is at an all-time high and gradually improving over the
years as much as Shikhar Dhawan who is gradually increasing from 2019 to 2021. We can
also note that the averages of Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav are fluctuating over the
three years which makes them inconsistent in real terms.

Page 4|9
BOWLERS:
The following data consist of bowlers and their average runs per over and economies over the
matches of last three years.

The above chart shows us the average runs given by the bowlers and their cumulative average
along with their inconsistencies. This chart helps us to find the players who are consistent and
best at bowling on the basis of per over. The following graph presents the above table in a
more detailed manner.

The next table shows us the economy of the bowlers per over giving their efficiencies,
followed by a chart to represent the same.
Economy is calculated using the number
of runs given power over by the police in
their respective years. The average of the
economies over the years has been
compiled together.

Page 5|9
CALCULATION:
Arithmetic Mean of Rahul Chahar = Sum of the runs of three years
Total no. of wickets
= 308 + 433 + 202 943 24.2
13 + 15 + 11 39

Standard Deviation of Rahul Chahar =

= 55.98 18.6

INTERPRETATION:
From the above given bating data, we can interpret that the inconsistency level of
Ravichandra Ashwin is very high at a rate of 66.3 which is not reliable on the basis of
consistency followed by Yuzvendra Chahal and Bhubaneshwar Kumar whose performance is
also inconsistent whereas the players Rahul Chahar, Jaspreet Bhumra, Mohammad Shami and
Deepak Chahar has a good consistency. While Jasprit Bhumra has the best average over the
year Mohammad Shami has been more consistent over the years at a rate of 2.8.
The highest economy is 8.6 of Mohammad Shami which makes him the most expensive
bowler and the lowest economy is 6.8 of Jaspreet Bhumra which makes him one of the most
economical bowlers in the last 3 years. While others have a decent economy ranging from
7.4-8.

ALL-ROUNDERS
BATTING
The following table consist of data regarding the statistics of all-rounders (batting). The table
consist of top three players on the statistics.

The following graphs indicate the same.

INTERPRETATION(BATTING):
Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja have high inconsistency in their data but both data sets
tell different stories while Hardik has high inconsistency because his performance saw a high
dip in performance in 2021 IPL, on the other hand, Jadeja’s performance has improved
massively. While Krunal Performance is below average in all three years with an average of
14.0 in the last three years.
BOWLING
The following table consist of data regarding the statistics of all-rounders (bowling). The
table consist of top three players on the statistics.

Page 7|9
INTERPRETATION(BOWLING):
While Hardik Pandya is the most expensive bowler, Krunal and Jadeja are economical
bowlers.
Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya's averages are good but Hardik Pandya didn’t have
enough data for interpretation, on the other hand, Jadeja's average is good but he is
inconsistent, as in the year 2020 his average is high. Krunal’s average is high which is why
he is the poorest performer out of these three.

INTERPRETATION:
Out of these three Hardik and Jadeja are top performers. They are performing well both in
batting and bowling.

CONCLUSION:
The above teen is put together using various statistics and analysis of the data obtained from
the last three years of IPL matches using several techniques such as mean, median, Standard
deviation, etc. We came to know about players reliability and what we can expect from these
players in the upcoming T20 WC.
