Lesson 5: MOVIE ANALYSIS

1. What is Scientism?

Many concluded that scientism is the only genuine knowledge of reality. This scientific knowedge is
vastly superior to what we can know from any other discipline. Scientism views that it alone has the
authority to give us knowledge of reality.

2. How is science comparable to magic?

As per stated in the documentary, science is religion, credulity and power.

Science is religion. In movies with magical genre, magic is said or believed to be holy where strong
magic is all they need to survive or can save them in any circumstances and its likr science as a religion
where people put their faith in it and could bring to salvation.

Science is credulity. Just like magic, science is easily believed without even further studies or
evidences to justify it. In some cases even if a study is far from completion or is impossible to be
completed many scientist would not disregard the study hence it would be preserved and believed that
someday it would be completed.

Science is power. Magic is power. Just like magic, science possesses power like force or destruction.
In the documentary, its power was described as hideous strength. Because of science nature is easily
destroyed and would even go further where both animals and human became test subjects.
3. Why is science more dangerous tahn magic?

Science is real and magic is fictional. Science possesses hideous strength that brings destruction and
devastation to humanity. Many people claim that science can save us yet it is the opposite. Science may
have advantages but brings loss to humanity in the end.

4. How is modern life portrayed in the village of mills?

They live in traditional ways where technologies are not necessary.

5. Can you live in that village? Why or why not?

Yes. Beacause it is peaceful (no warfare, discord and noise pollution), clean (no pollution) and lastly you
will be connected to nature.
