explanation why is it dangerous.

Dark side of Modern Science Explanation

1. Encouragement of a lack of skepticism Science is supposed to be just hard facts, so
how does that encourage gullibility? Of
course, magic can be thought of in the way
that tribes have witch doctors who people
believe whatever they say, so being magical
thinking can encourage a type of credulous
thinking or you just trust what authority
figure shows, but how does science
encourage that type of credulous or gullible
thinking as Lewis pointed out.
2. Power Lewis claimed that much of modern science,
not all of it, but a significant portion was
actually devoted to the pursuit of power
over the world. Magic was about the quest
for power, wands magician’s have power
over the world and over the universe. They
want to harness the powers of nature and
the deeper power of nature in order to
control it.
3. Authoritarianism Lewis was troubled by the dogmatic
application of science, which is why he
created his books That Hideous Strength and
The Abolition of man, in which he expresses
his anxiety and, in a way, forecasts the
emergence of a new class of specialists who
would rule the world in the name of science.
4. Scientocracy It is claimed even when a few people speak
in the name of science and may even be
adopting the majority view, they are still
claiming the authority to rule based on their
scientific knowledge and skill. This is true of
governments and societies that claim to be
based on the claims of modern science.
5. Penchant to control It is believe that is the only available method
from a scientific perspective, You really have
people who are going to abuse their power
because they thin that we’re the only ones
who know what should happen because the
we know how the universe really works, so if
you think that if I have the scientific truth
about something that’s you know the end of
story I know everything that really tends to
feed power trip whether you’re a scientist or
you’re a politician who’s trying to latch on
the press stage of science you really have
people who will abuse their power. Anyone
who doesn’t have scientific training or isn’t
agreement with the prevailing view of
science is essentially ignorant, opposed to
progress, or doesn’t grasp science, thus it
should be really swept by the wayside and
shouldn’t be listed to when designing
government programs.

b. What is scientism. Is CS Lewis against science per se? Why?

- Lewis was not against science; Lewis was very much a skeptic and an opponent of scientism.
He was against scientism; scientism is a certain materialistic approach that sought to reduce
everything that we could understand scientifically to materialism causes blind undirected
causes. Lewis believed that science was an endeavor that was entirely legitimate, he never
denied this belief and, as far as I am aware, Lewis studies it quite a bit. He also opposed
scientism, which is the notion that the methods serve as the standard by which all other
intellectual disciplines must be judged.
