USES AND APPLICATIONS OF CAPACITOR-START, CAPACITOR RUN MOTOR

Motor start and run capacitors are used in single-phase AC induction motors.

Such motors are used whenever a single-phase power supply is more practical than a three-
phase power supply, such as in domestic appliances.
Power tools, washing machines, tumble dryers, dishwashers, vacuum cleaners, air
conditioners, and compressors are examples of common applications that use start and run
motor capacitors.
CAPACITOR-START MOTOR
These motors are used for higher inertia loads that require repeated starting. Pumps and
compressors use it. Used in the compressors in refrigerators and air conditioners. Conveyors
and hand tools also make use of them.
CAPACITOR RUN MOTOR
A run capacitor is used to continuously adjust current or phase shift to a motor's
windings in an effort to optimize the motor's torque and efficiency performance. Because it is
designed for continuous duty, it has a much lower failure rate than a start capacitor.  Most
common example of this type of motor is the motor used in ceiling fan.
