This dissertation will start by briefly looking at government initiatives and consumer
concerns about environmental issues within the hospitality industry specifically
focusing on hotels. In will then discuss how hotels have used initiatives, to advertise
to and market to consumers, progressing to probe further into green claims, ‘green’
hotel labels and certifications. It then seeks to discuss the importance and relevance
of clear labelling from environmental issues, The article will explore the issue of
‘green marketing’ and ‘green washing;’ how it is seen to be exploiting current
legislation and to some extent consumer naivety, following this it will round up the
issues with hotel.
Objectives: Based upon above aims of the dissertation, the following objectives
have been formulated in order to carry out project.
“Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has been on the agenda for big businesses
for some time now, but greater emphasis on such policies from politicians, business
leaders and consumers means that the trend towards responsible trading is filtering
down the commercial hierarchy to affect businesses of all sizes. Not to be outdone,
Conservative leader David Cameron has also leapt on the CSR bandwagon, urging
big businesses to act more responsibly. But while the corporate giants of this world
are slowly starting to get the message on the issue, smaller businesses are left in the
dark over what they can do to improve their own CSR policies and what impact it will
have on their bottom line. This sense of uncertainty over CSR is also hitting the
catering and hospitality trades, with restaurants and hotels alike often unsure of the
extent to which they should be embracing such policies and even what they entail”
(Lelic, 2006). This paper will analyse all the issue related to CSR in hospitality
industry.
• What is CRC?
The above objectives have been formulated in such a manner that it will cover most
of the topic related to the aims of the dissertation. This dissertation is comprehensive
in nature and will cover the above issue in detail. In addition to above issue other
related issue will be also discussed if found relevant with the aims of dissertations.
The key words of the dissertation are– carbon footprint, corporate social
responsibility (CSR) and carbon reduction commitments (CRC).
