1. Based on the article, what is the relevance of Montessori approach in our current time?

- According to Dr. Montessori’s understanding, “education is about serving life. About

guiding a child’s development so that the outcomes serve to prepare and empower the
child to make life for themselves, to find success in the world”. Time flies, times
changed, and science continues its progress, same thing with Montessori approach.
The Montessori focuses on the preparation of children in life to succeed and it takes
more than learning how to read and write.

- Montessori approach in education is not too old, tired or outdated. Up until our
current time, It continues to meet, provide and guide to support the developmental
needs of human beings in life, and in this world.

2. How does Montessori approach prepare or help equip the learners with regards to social
skills?

- In the Montessori classrooms, social development takes place in many forms like
mixed age groups, small group lessons, and of course the set amount of materials.
These help children to collaborate with one another, interact appropriately and learn
to respect peers and other people.

3. Make a brief research and explain the Four Avenues of Learning as described by Dr.
Montessori.

Practical Life avenue is about coordinating movements, learning to concentrate.

Children learn to do simple things/tasks such as tying shoes, learning how to do buttons
and other simple things that can be done by kids/small children.

Sensorial Development is where children learn to develop and refine the senses and
concepts like colors, sizes, length and shape.

Development of Language this is where children learn to read, build words, phrases,
sentences, spelling, basic grammar and proper usage.

Early Preparation of the Mathematical Mind where children learn counting and
basic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
4. As a Gen X, Millenial or Gen Z educator, how are you going to integrate the use of
technology and of the Montessori approach in your own class?

- I can use the musication App from YouTube for learning some of the percussion
instruments as our topic in my class. It’s an online video with classical music being
played, students will play along with the music using the assigned percussion
instrument for each child, students will play it when their assigned symbols light up
and pause or wait for their turn as the other symbols are still lighting up.

-Create or design a simple lesson plan or activity with the grade 3 level students that will be able
to target both the technology and Montessori approach.

ACTIVITY FOR GRADE 3 STUDENTS
