LEARNING ACTIVITY 1.
1. In your own understanding what do you mean by Educational Technology?

● Educational technology (commonly abbreviated as Edu TECH, or

EdTech) is the combined used of computer hardware, software and
educational theory and practice to facilitate learning.
Educational technology creates, uses, and manages technological
processes and educational resources to help improve user
academic performance.

2. Describe today’s learners. Cite specific learning styles associated

with these kind of learners?

● Every modern learners is unique. Each modern come from a

different cultural and educational background. but there are
also common characteristics that they tend to share.
⮚ Easily distracted-they are thinking about any number of
things at one given time, making it easy to get distracted
when that are trying to complete an online course.
⮚ Social learners-they spend a good portion of their day at
the social media networks, catching up with friends and
reaching out to business contacts. In fact, in many
respects, social networking has taken the place of face to
face communication.
⮚ Crave constant knowledge- they simply hop on their mobile
or tablets and find out everything they need to know to
satisfy their curiosity.
⮚ Always on the go- make it easily digestible by offering
short bursts of information on a regular basis, such as
five minute modules that each covers a specific sub topic.
⮚ Independent- they are not afraid to set out on their own to
find the knowledge they need to achieved their goals, even
if that means devoting all of their free time to endeavor.
⮚ Impatient- they know that there are abundance of
information just waiting for them on the internet, so they
won’t waste their time with an online course that does not
cater to their needs.
⮚ Overworked- many carry out of wide variety of job
responsibilities, making it difficult to balance their home
life with their careers.

3. As a future 21st century educator, what would be your skills to

address the different learning styles of the learners?

● For me, for the 21st future educator we must have a skills like
critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication,
information literacy, media literacy, technology literacy,
flexibility, leadership, initiative, productivity and social
skills. These skills are intended to help students keep up with
the lightning-pace of today’s modern markets. Each skill is
unique in how it helps students, but they all have one quality
in common.
I think most honest answer to this question is “it depends on
what the students want to do.” There are an immense range of
things which people can do in the modern economy and the skills
which seems relevant to almost all of them seem to me to be
rather limited and basic. Just about everyone needs to know how
to read and write in their native language at least. But noy
everyone has to be a particularly good or compelling writer.
As the economy and society grows more complex and specialized
the number of skills needed for all careers and lifestyle should
decline while the importance of specialized skills should
increase. So, don’t worry so much about the skills everyone
needs 9 you probably have them), worry about finding the type of
career/lifestyle that works best with you and what skills that
career needs.

4. Many college students are presently required to take computer courses

including word processing (Microsoft offices, spreadsheet presentation
(excel)presentation technique(power point, etc. how do you think this
will help application of skills needed in educational technology?

● It is indeed very important for the college students, especially

aspiring teachers, to take computer courses because having a
background about word processing, spreadsheet preparation and
presentation techniques will help application of skills needed
in educational technology, in such a way that it will be easier
already to hands on application of computer skills when it comes
to technology integration. We cannot deny that knowing such
things will fasten our work as a teacher in a future, because we
will be doing a lot of slide presentation foe our demonstration
as well as using excel to make computations of grades easier.
For the fact that educational technology focuses more on
mediated technology, that is why in order to perform well on
this course, the student must be equip with the basic skill that
are necessary for technology integration.

5. Interview 6 teachers regarding how technology used in the classroom.

Teaching 30 year ago (3) and the teaching of today (3).

● As a teacher for 30 years. I am not able to do of what 21st

teacher do today, I might say I am not able to compete with the
technology they used in calculating grade as what they said the
excel. Cause all I know is the traditional teaching and I don’t
know how to us those computers.

● I am a teacher in a elementary I am old enough in those school

but, I am happy that I was teaching the children using my
knowledge when I was young. study new things, But for now as the
technology existed it was hard to me. To develop new things
because when I was young I go to school without gadgets but,
today I can’t imagine that even my students a 8 years old know
how to use a computer and cellphones.

● I’m not a believer in the idea that we should use technology for
its own sake. Any use of technology in the classroom should have
a clear purpose and that purpose should have a benefit beyond
more traditional ways of doing something. If, for example, you
intend for students to write an essay, what possible benefit is
there in doing it via a word processing application? If, like in
our country students needs to hand write their final exams, then
perhaps by preventing them from hand writing we are actually
doing student disservice. Of course theirs are lots of ways to
step up the traditional essay to make it a more effective
learning experience.

● As a teacher we are generally work hard to differentiate or

personalize the learning in their classroom, but It’s tricky
proposition at the best of time. However, I think the technology
today have a potential in our way. For example, there are plenty
of examples of software that will provide reading level
appropriate materials for student, or software that will deliver
adaptive questioning for students at their level.
● One of the goals of great learning environments should always be
the empowerment of student. This technology help them to pursue
their beautiful questions. Turning a worksheet into a google doc
is not empowering students unless the goal is to help them
become more facile with google docs.

● 21st century skills, nextgen skills, call them what you like but
we have to be focused on preparing students for the modern
world. Whenever possible we want to get students engaged with
technology that is closer to the cutting edge. Perhaps more
importantly we want to be sure we are facilitating in ways that
push students that cognitively travel the landscape of the
modern world.

organizer from the beginning until now and annotate some
