Episode 1: The School as a Learning Resource Center

According to our resource teacher, resource materials must be well organized according
to their functions and characteristics. For example, books and other teaching materials should be
place in an orderly manner as to subject areas or as to subject matter for grading period. In this
manner the teacher and students as well can easily access the things they need for the certain
topic or subject matter.
The guidelines and procedures facilitate easy access to the materials by the teachers
should be labelled properly and the instructions in using them should be clearly stated to avoid to
avoid wasting of time. With regards to tangible materials like microphone sound system,
computer, projector and other related technology, it must be proper monitored to prevent last of
the learning materials. So, you need a log book where in whoever wants to borrow the material
sign up indicating the date, name, signature and the date when to return the material.
Through the teacher’s effort, the main strength of Learning Resource Center is its
attractiveness to the students. A lot of colorful pictures are posted on walls which by themselves
serves as learning materials. The main weakness is its physical size. The growing number of
students make it difficult for them to fit in Learning Resource Center. Moreover, it serves as an
extension classrooms which makes it even smaller. Since students have their own classroom she
suggest that they must take turns in using the LRC. Probably, they can do it by grade level so as
to avoid overcrowding. LRC should be conducive to learning so classes should not be done
inside.
There are many technologies being used in teaching like networking, online teaching,
class blogs mobile devices and many more improve learning and teaching process in w/c benefits
are evident in utilizing varied educational technology like improve engagement among learners,
improve knowledge retention, encourage individual learning, encourage collaboration and
students can learn more useful skills.

Bulletin boards are a great way to reinforce lesson & goals and further instructions.
The location of your display is just important as the information you put on it. Classroom

learners.
Display design effects the interest of the audience so make sure that displays capture
student’s attention. It needs to be accessible and it has to be manipulative in order to encourage
student’s involvement.
The language to be used was clear and simple so that the audience could easily read and
understand the writings on the board by using simple words and phrases. If not, they would have
a diff. understanding or interpretation and worst they don’t understand at all.

Instructional materials should be appropriate for the age, emotional and social
development and ability level of a students whom the materials are selected but the availability
and the cost of the materials has to put into consideration.
Teachers experience a lot of difficulties in the teaching learning process as follow
according to our resource teacher:
A.) Some of the skills included into material may be needed and required but based on the
instructional level of your students its simply isn’t worth the time to spent trying to
master the skills so you just introduce simple and basic words or information to learners.
B.) The prominent problems that teachers are facing in remote areas that hinder, the effective
use of instructional materials in school includes the lack of materials/resources for
instance the unavailability of current so most probably wifi and other electrical gadgets
are useless. Teachers can still be effective in using the traditional way of teaching w/c is
the lecture method.
C.) Learning resource materials used effectively in the class because they all have the ability
to support students learning. However, in some cases problems may arise when
objectives are poorly given. This can confused your learners and they try to make their
own perspective in such a way they interpret the direction.

REACTION

Despite all of those struggles that we faced during our FS 3, I am so glad still because we
make it until the end.
Our FS 3 resource teacher continue her career and pursue her chosen profession in abroad
as a private teacher to her two lucky students. She is a kind of busy woman I could ever know.
She has a problem regarding technology as she said, she never experienced using those when
she’s still here in the Philippines. All this time, she only used her cell phone to communicate
with us.
She make time of answering our guide questions secretly when the two boys are playing
and when they sleeping because if the two boys saw it, they will get her phone from her. Our
resource teacher also give her time answering during her rest time just to give her part in this
field study.
I leaned from her the dedication and courage of being a good teacher someday. She
inspired me to love not only the teaching learning process but also the students. She also said that
teaching is not only teaching what is what to teach. It is also touching the hearts of your learners
and what they have learned about you that they may apply to their future.
