Lesson: Learning the Alphabet Audience: Pre-K

Learning Objective: I can identify letter names.

Book: My day from A to Z.

Vocabulary: compound

Materials: Alphabet cards with the letter and picture on them.

Lesson: The teacher will begin the class by showing the cover of the book and pointing to the
letters A and Z. Next the teacher will explain to the students that we will be reading a book that
has all the letters in the alphabet and there will be a word for each letter. Next, the teacher will
explain that the book is about a little Elephant's day and ask the students what letter Elephant
starts with. Tell children to look and listen carefully to see if those things are in this book. While
reading the book point to each letter while you say the letters name.

Game: Alphabet Frieze game. The teacher will pass out alphabet cards to the students and
when the teacher says the letter in the alphabet the students will bring the card up and lay it on
the floor.
