Don’t FEAR

By: Princes Baccay

Being on top is her main goal in life.

She grew up on a family who puts pressure in everything the she does. She was always being dictated on
every move and decisions in life. From that, she keeps in her mind that defeat and failure should not
exist.

At very young age she learned to be competitive and to be meticulous even with the smallest detail of
things.

She is currently a Senior High School student running for the Valedictorian. Having such awards won’t
even surprise or makes her happy. It’s like being in a scenario all over again. As time goes by, she started
to feel unhappy and numb. Unhappy of always fighting the urge to explore and have freedom, and
numb because of the bitterness inside her heart.

One day while going to school she felt an extreme pain inside her head. The pain is throbbing and it gets
more painful every time she moves. One of her teachers saw her, and as the teacher approach her she
felt the lost of energy and everything blocked out.

She woke up in a hospital bed and saw her parents crying.

She asked, “mom, what’s wrong?”

“Nothing darling, I’m just worried about you” her mom replied.

She pretended to be asleep and when the doctor came to check on her. She heard their conversation.

“She’s having a brain tumor and it’s quite big, she needs to rest and do some therapy” the doctor said.

Her mom cried more with the thought of losing her daughter.

As soon as they got home after the medication, she immediately goes and checked her studies. She
insists to go to school despite of her situation. She reminded herself that she still has to fulfill her goals
in life and to make her parents proud. With contrast, her parents started to be more loving and stopped
pressuring her regarding with everything.

One day she took a quiz regarding with her major subject. She can’t quite remember the lessons that
she reviewed. But still she tried to answer all the questions with what she remembers. The next day,
when the teacher announces the scores she was surprised for not being called. After the class she asked
the teacher regarding the issue but it keeps on avoiding the topic.

“Ma’am will you please be honest with me, is there anything wrong with my score?”

“The thing here miss Lopez is I don’t want to burden you more. In your situations you should be resting.
But if you keep on insisting, it is up to you.”

Then the teacher gave her the test score. In her horror she got nothing. For the first time in her entire
existence she got nothing. She cried so hard. Her fears are starting. She failed all her exams and she
started to feel downed and anxious.

She changed into a monster.

Not until she started to engaged with the church. He met a guy, the parish priest. Whom help her to
better understand life and why such things happen. She started to learn to accept failure and rejection.
As she learns to accept things her condition became better as the tumor miraculously fade away. By
experiencing the glory of God she became a faithful follower of the church and God.

Everything became BETTER. She resumed at school and eventually graduated with flying colors. From
then, she keeps her promise to serve God until her last breath.

Don’t be afraid of failures. This will strengthen one person to keep on going despite the challenges.
