Long before I knew Him, There was, upon this earth, a Savior
I begrudged having to go to Church; Who came to cleanse and heal.
Sitting by a little brook, He wore a crown of thorns upon His head, Our
beneath a crooked limbed old birch. souls to ever seal.
But, one night, I felt His voice
and I heard the Minister say, He gave up the crown of Glory
"If you want to go to this lovely place called That was rightfully His, that day ~
Heaven, this is the way." That He came to earth to give
Unto all men, a glorious stay.
I bowed to the Master,
asking Him to come into my own heart, He put aside His own sweet crown,
‘Cause never, in my life span, His signet ring that day,
did I want this feeling from me to part. That, maybe, all would come and walk
I saw, in my heart, the old rugged cross He In His dear righteous way.
bore up a hill, that day.
And, I cried, "Lord, I give my life He loved us with a love so pure.
to You and I will ever stay." On His head He wore a crown of thorns,
That His love would cleanse the world
So, He crowned me with glory And man could be reborn.
and His Cross became my crown,
Because I want to be with my Savior, Mighty is the name of this Savior,
in Heaven, and hear the angels sound. Jesus. He redeemed the day
I asked for His mercy and, upon my heart He For all who would accept Him
very lovingly did bestow, And walk along His righteous way.
A crown of Glory born of a Cross he carried, as
upon a hill He did go. They hung Him upon
an old rugged Cross,
My crown was paid for by Jesus, A thief on either side.
as He hung and for my sins died. But, the day He comes back, again,
When I really realized this, my heart bled and He’ll take us to be His bride.
I hung my head and cried.
"Lord Jesus, forgive me. If we give our Hearts to Him
Though, naught did I do, way back then." Who bore our shame on Calvary’s Cross,
But, since I received my crown, Though we’ve sinned o’er and o’er,
I know Jesus died for every sin. We’ll suffer no loss ...
He will show us the way to glory, every step But, only if we claim Him as Savior
and every prayer of the way. And are not filled with shame.
He will lead us to victory, again, every time we Then, that fateful day, in Glory,
err and go astray. He’ll proudly proclaim our name.
The old cross was the burden
that we all thank Jesus for, today. This is the love of one so dear ~
For, He took our punishment. That He suffered agonizing pain
He earned, for all of us, So, when this life on earth is over,
an eternal stay. Through Him, we’ll be joined again.
He walked the way to the garden - Would you die for Jesus,
And blood fell in that place; The way He died for you?
Bounded before the rulers, Or, would you bow your head
His blood streamed down His face. And say, "This, I can't do?
My sins were, there, upon Him; What if our Heavenly Father said;
Blood red, then sparkling white! "Son, I'll spare you from the cross.
My hope in Him, eternal, You don't have to perish
Brought Heaven into sight! For the sinners that are lost."
How can that bright red blood It would be sad, for all of us,
make white? To look into the face
I do not understand. Of our Father, up above,
But this I know, we'll never need Without His Saving Grace.
Another sacrificial lamb!
God could have said,
He is so very beautiful, "I don't think it's wise
More worthy than any words. To punish My Son,
I cannot think of the abyss, For their wicked demise."
Were His name never heard!
But, I'm so glad
The tomb is but a vacuum, That God told His Son,
Drawing earthly souls to Him! "It's a huge sacrifice.
The blood has done its mighty work But, it has to be done."
And we are cleansed from sin!
For God loved us so much,
He let His Son take our place;
When He died on that cross,
For the whole human race.
When Christ was on earth, He was God's only Son, who came here, for

Which still holds good:
He shall grow up as a tender plant, a root out

It shall always be with cross-shaped Blossoms He is despised and rejected of men;

true freedom it will bring.
SAVING GRACE

And deserve our love and praise Is Jesus Christ
I cannot express just how I feel Who died for us
When I think of your saving grace Then was raised to life
He’s alive today
To think of what you went through And lives in our hearts
That day upon the cross Our debts now all paid
And in the moments leading up to it To give a new start.
When soldiers spat and scoffed
You bore it all out of your love Who in years gone past
For no one’s exempt from your saving grace When nailed to the cross
But it’s a gift freely given from you. He forgave me and you
