Solar energy is becoming more popular, however, there is one major drawback to
this type of energy. Carvey Ehren Maigue, a Mapúa University student has created a solar
panel that addresses the renewable resource's frequent efficiency issue. The AuREUS
system is an upgrade for walls/windows that employs technology synthesized from
recycled agricultural waste to capture stray UV light from sunlight and convert it to clean
renewable power. AuREUS was inspired by the natural principles of the well-known
northern lights or Aurora Borealis. The material may be posted and affixed to walls,
windows, or apertures that enable UV light to flow through. With natural waste materials
having a large number of energy molecules and particles, such as fruits and vegetables, the
UV light with luminescent particles absorbs those of the waste crops. Then it may be
emitted as visible light again. In comparison to existing solar panels, AuREUS can
function even when not directly facing the sun, it can rely on UV scattering through clouds
and by UV light bouncing along walls, pavements, other buildings. This is highly
applicable for skyscrapers in urban settings allowing access to clean renewable
electricity. And AuREUS is made of plastic, it can be molded into many shapes. The
AuREUS ideas contribute to society were intended to build a future-facing answer in the
form of renewable energy while simultaneously including a present-day value-creating
solution for our farmers, who are being negatively impacted by the current effects of
climate change. With this strategy, we can show people that embracing sustainability to
combat climate change helps both present and future generations, thereby mobilizing more
people to join the fight against climate change.
