In an old village in some far away continent, there lived some
Rotarians. They were dying because their drinking water from a
well was contaminated by some unknown bacteria. They sought

their midst proposed to the villagers that they could only avoid
death if the well was treated and made safe from the bacteria.
WHAT'S HAPPENING AT Resources were canvassed for and an expert was engaged. That
was the solution to stop the menacing deaths.

Communities can adopt a process to

incorporate the principles and goals of CED.
This CED process includes the following
steps –
• Form a CED agency/organization that is
responsible for leading the CED process.
• Work with your neighbors in a region to
address common development issues.
• Collect and analyze data to determine
appropriate strategies and activities.
• Decide on a strategic focus based on the
data analysis. This can include a combination
of strategies such as –
▪Business development (ex: local
investment pool, business support services)
▪Local development (ex: beautification,
zoning, industrial parks)
▪Human resource development (ex: local
training initiatives)
Sector development (ex: business retention
and expansion projects, supply chain gap

Gordon R McInally selection as RI

President 2023/24 confirmed
Gordon's vision for Rotary includes some of the following:
My vision is to see Rotary continue to change and reflect the
times, especially at this pivotal moment as we move out of the
current global pandemic. The opportunities with which we have
been presented recently will shape the direction we take over
several years, and I relish the chance to lead during that period.
Rotary International must remember that it exists primarily to
support its clubs and so, delivering our strategic priorities and
objectives, thus strengthening clubs must be at the forefront of
our minds. Membership is the lifeblood of our organization. I
would encourage the use of the flexibility now available to
establish new style clubs that would appeal to a different
demographic. I would also seek to implement Best Practice in
the area of Retention, especially Mentoring; this would help
keep many of those members presently lost to us relatively
soon after joining. I would remain focused on truly diversifying
both our membership and our leadership. Read more on the

Vongai Chakanyuka, our Guest speaker
on September 13th, gave us an
extremely interesting take on how the
covide pandemic and subsequent
shutdown of schools for most of this
year has impacted not only children's
education but also their state of mind,
their feelings of security, their coping
mechanisims and their coping
mechanisms. Real food for thought
indeed.

We were absolutely delighted to welcome our

guest speaker for September 20th, Rotary
International Director Elect from our District,
Patrick Chisanga of the Rotry Club of Nkwazi.
We learnt about leadership in general as well
as leadership from a Rotary perspective.
Patrick was kind enough to also speak about
the Zone 22 Institutes for 2022 (Addis Ababa)
and 2023 in Lusaka, Zambia. We are
encouraged to support the Addis Institute to
show our full support for RIDE Patrick and of
course attend the Lusaka Institute in 2023 as it
is on our doorstep.

Tatenda Tavaziva, President Elect of the Rotary

Club of Msasa, conducted a wonderful training
session on how to use District and Club
Database (DacDb). It is such an effective tool
but we as club memebrs are not utilising it to its
full potential. It was a real eye-opener for most
of us in the club and it is hoped that some of the
items he covered can be utilised by our club
going forward.
