A Bury St Edmunds man died after jumping from a bridge on to the A14, an inquest has heard.
George Collins, of The Vinefields, fell from the bridge on to the westbound carriageway on the morning of August 10 last year - just
one week after his 38th birthday.
He was subsequently struck by multiple vehicles, the drivers of which stopped and alerted the emergency services, and a post
mortem found the medical cause of death to be 'multiple injuries'.
An inquest held today (Wednesday) at Ipswich Coroner's Court heard that Mr Collins, who suffered with schizophrenia, had been
staying at his parents' home in Elmswell at the time of the incident.
Richard Godden, a forensic collision investigator at Suffolk Police who attended the scene, said Mr Collins had probably walked two

miles from his parents' home to the bridge where a phone and walking shoes, believed to be his, were later found.
His mother Rosemary described the overdose as a 'cry for help' but he was later discharged on August 5.
Jacqueline Devonish, area coroner for Suffolk, recorded a narrative conclusion that Mr Collins 'took his own life by jumping from a
bridge' but said 'the evidence does not fully explain whether or not he intended that outcome to be fatal' as it was unclear if he had
been responding to voices in his head at the time.
Mr Collins' mother described her son as 'a happy and artistic little boy with passionate interests' before he was began to suffer with
mental health problems at the age of 20.
"Unfortunately his medication dumbed down his creativity," she said. "He found it difficult to relate to other people or form friendships
which resulted inin him having a solitary life.
"George was aware of the impact his medication was having on him and he had no memory of happy parts of his childhood.
"He felt his artistic talent had been deadened, he had no joy for life and rarely smiled."
Nevertheless she said Mr Collins, who worked as a kitchen porter at Eastgate Street's The Fox Inn, was 'a normal part of the family'.
