Charles in Onism

Fade in:

1. INT. William and Elizabeth’s House

A man and woman are heard arguing; details of the argument not intelligible but it sure is a

passionate and intense fight. As the argument continues, in the same house is a boy is

drawing people who appear to be hovering. This is in a bid to drown out the displeasing

sound of his parents’ fight.

2. INT. Grandfather’s house, New England – summer

Charles, a nine-year old boy grieving his twin brother’s death has visited his

grandparents as his parents; also heavy with grief have decided to settle their separation

during this summer period.

Charles:

Are my parents getting a divorce? Is Andrew in heaven?

Reality is escaping Charles as he draws ghostly characters from his imagination.

Julie:

(While having dinner) Charles, you cannot feel guilty about things you cannot control.

All you can do is move forward and do your best.

3. EXT. Grandfather’s House – A Victorian-style country manor

Benjamin always played with his grandsons as they spent their summers there. He

now wants to use this summer vacation to help Charles overcome his grief and fear. Charles

and his grandparents are playing a game of hide-and-seek when Charles falls through the

cracks in the basement floor of the manor.

4. EXT. In Onism – Underworld

On opening his eyes, he sees characters just like in the ghostly imagination hovering

fast towards him. While in a fetal position, a girl just about 11 years floats fast towards him

and whips him to safety. The girl introduces herself to Charles.

Anna:

Explaining to an already confused Charles

My name is Anna. You made it to Onism, the underworld.

You must have gone through a portal and I can help you get back but first I will need

some help from you.

Charles seeming to be in a hurry to get back to his grandparents so they do not worry

is debating whether he should trust Anna in as much as he wants to help her. He realizes that

he also needs Anna’s help if he is to get anywhere especially in this underworld.

Charles:

I will help you in exchange of your help to get me back home.
