Student Health Pledge

Forward by AUC Student Government Association:

A pledge from and to our AUC Community:

The AUC family is no stranger to obstacles. We have demonstrated time and again that we
overcome major challenges when we work together and commit to collaborative solutions. In
2018, we found our core values through RISE: Resilience, Inclusion, Service to others, and
Excellence. These values serve to define both who we are and what we strive to become, and
they will be especially important for us as we transition back to our campus in January.

The COVID-19 pandemic has asked each of us to set aside individual freedoms for the
collective safety of our community. As medical professionals in training, we have taken the Oath
of Physicians and recognize our duty to do no harm. In this era of COVID-19, we commit to
social distancing as a form of inclusion and respect for others. We acknowledge that these
expectations, while often inconvenient and socially difficult, are necessary in order to sustain a
healthy environment in which all members of our AUC community can feel safe and thrive. As
AUC students, we will continue to demonstrate resilience, inclusion, service to others, and
excellence as we navigate through and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.

As an AUC family, we pledge to abide by these expectations to the best of our abilities as long
as is deemed necessary by campus leadership and public health authorities.

Any questions regarding this health pledge may be directed to the Sint Maarten Medical
Sciences’ Student Government Association at sga@students.aucmed.edu.

The Medical Sciences Student Health Pledge is a published AUC rule governing student
conduct. AUC’s approach to COVID-19 risk reduction is built on the foundation that we are a
community and have a responsibility to each other and ourselves to minimize the risk of COVID-
19 while we are learning and working. Violations of the Pledge will be addressed through the
administrative review process as conduct violations. As the public health crisis evolves, AUC will
continue to monitor, adjust, and communicate updates to this Pledge, when necessary.
