First Semester, School year 2021-2022

Module 1: Differential Equations (GEM 4)

Introduction:

Differential Equations is any equations that consist of Differentials or

Derivatives.

Learning outcomes and Learning activities:

At the end of the topic, the students will be able to:

1. Understand the concept of Differential Equations.

2. Identify the Order and Degree of the Differential Equations.
3. Classify what kind of Differential Equations (Ordinary and Partial
Differential Equations)

The students are expected to perform the following learning activities:

1. Attend online discussion

2. Watch recorded lecture videos
3. Registration of students in the online learning platform.
4. Browse topic module.
Examples:

1.

2.

3.

4.

Oder- The order of a Differential Equation is defined as the same as the order
of the highest derivative involved in the equation.

Example:

The order of this Differential Equation is 2.

Degree- The degree of a Differential Equations is the same as the power (or
exponent) to which the derivative of the highest order is raised.

The Degree of the Differential Equation is 1

Classifications of Differential Equations

1. Ordinary Differential Equations (ODE)- An Ordinary Differential
Equations containing one independent variable and its derivative.
2. Partial Differential Equations (PDE)- A partial Differential Equations
containing multivariable functions and its derivative.

∂u ²
∂x
+ 3u ∂∂ ux + ∂u∂ x³

Summary:

Many of the basic rules of biological, physical and social sciences are
formulating in mathematical relations involving unknown and known
quantities and their derivatives. These relations are called Differential
Equations.

Life application and thoughts to fonder

In order to solve Differential Equations, you look at its classification until the
solution occurs in you.
