Owing to his passion for legal education, Dr. Mittal founded two online law
teaching platforms during the national lockdown in 2020, namely, Virtual Law School
(VLS) and Judicial Preparation and Advisory Center (JPAC). Dr. Mittal has worked in
more than 150 villages of India as part of several research and empowerment programs
for women, children and disadvantaged groups and indigenous population. Dr. Mittal
has been a visiting faculty at Indian Law Institute, Delhi. He has delivered lectures
at National Academy for Training & Research in Social Security, Ministry of Labour
and Employment, Government of India; NUSRL Ranchi and in other national law
colleges. Dr. Mittal has delivered lectures and presented papers on Access to Justice
in Miami Dade College Florida (USA); Georgia State University, College of Law (USA)
and Barry University, Orlando. Dr. Mittal has also spoken in Loyola University of
Chicago School of Law; Atlanta International Arbitration Society, Georgia;
Northwestern University School of Law, Chicago; and Toledo University College of
Law, Ohio and Southern Illinoi University School of Law.
Dr. Mittal has published in international and national law journals on wide range
of legal issues including two-tier arbitration process, third party funded arbitration,
euthanasia, access to justice, gender disparity in Indian judiciary, decline of NHRC in a
populist regime (forthcoming), etc. Dr. Mittal also regularly writes in popular
media like Bar and Bench, Deccan Herald, New Indian Express, the Statesman, etc.
Justice Sikri holds to his merit numerous landmark judgments. He was a part of the
Constitution Bench that ruled in favour of Aadhaar. He was also part of a two-judge
bench that approved the Centre’s draft of the much-awaited Witness Protection
Scheme, 2018 and directed its implementation across the country till Parliament came
out with a law.
Another historic judgment to Justice Sikri’s name is the Constitution bench that
allowed passive euthanasia and the execution of a living will which allowed people
suffering from terminal illness and likely to slip into a vegetative state to draft a will
while conscious, dictating whether they would want to be taken off life support.
Justice Sikri holds important positions in various bodies. He was appointed as the
ombudsman and ethics officer by the Indian Federation of Sports Gaming (IFSG),
country’s self-regulatory industry body for the online fantasy sports gaming sector.
He is the Judge of Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC); Chairman of
National Court Management Systems Committee (NCMS); Chairperson of the
Committee for Formulating an Action Plan for Online Dispute Resolution under NITI
Aayog, Government of India; Chairman of News Broadcasting Standards Authority
(NBSA); Chairperson, Interim Advisory Council, Delhi School of Public Policy and
Governance (DSP&G), University of Delhi. He is also visiting Professor of various Law
Universities.
He has been the President of PHDCCI, a Member of the Managing Committee and
Chair of Legal & Regulatory Reforms Council – ASSOCHAM. He is also a
representative on ICC (India) Commissions, Indian Council of Arbitration and Society
of Indian Law Firms.
Alok Sonker
Partner, Krishnamurthy & Co., Mumbai
He has Advised Reliance Industries Limited on investment from STAR Group for the
Indian Super League, and in Vasyerp Solutions Private Limited. He has also advised
Imerys on strategic acquisition and consolidation in group companies, such as,
acquisition of HIL Limited assets, transaction value aggregating to approx. USD
50,000,000.
Mr. Sonker has also advised GMR Group on sale of 50% equity interest in ‘Delhi
Daredavil’ (renamed as Delhi Capitals) to JSW Sports and advised Larsen & Toubro
on various divestments including L&T Cutting Tools Limited to IMC and EWAC
Alloys to ESAB. He was also advised IMG-Reliance and Reliance Industries Limited
on investment from STAR Group for the Indian Super League and advised Foxconn
Group on the India leg of the acquisition of Sharp Corporation and the resultant open
offer in Sharp India. And the list goes on including several other clients whom Mr.
Sonker regularly advises on matters of M& A and other corporate matters.
He is a 2006 Lucknow University LLB graudate, with a 2008 LLM in business law from
NLSIU Bangalore.
Mr. Sonker has been recognised as IBLJ's Future Legal Leader (2021) and ALB's Top
Fintech Lawyer (2021). And Mr. Sonker has also been recognised as one of the India
Super 50 Lawyers 2021 by Asian Legal Business.
He started his career under pupillage of Mr. Harish Salve, Senior Advocate and Ex-
Solicitor General of India. He was the in-house Legal Counsel of Coca-Cola and
thereafter he got associated with Bharti Group and worked for their telecom,
infrastructure and real estate retail sectors. He has represented the industry on various
forums and actively participated in the Legislative Consultative process. He also takes
active interest in interacting with students countrywide.
Mr. Lamba has been on the user council of Singapore International Arbitration Centre.
He has also been a part of the Legal Committee of ASSOCHAM, Ph.D. Chambers of
Commerce, FICCI and Gurgaon Chambers of Commerce.
Mr. P. K Malhotra has held several key positions. He was the Secretary-Ministry of
Law and Justice; Member - Law Commission of India (ExOfficio); Presiding Officer
and Member - Securities Appellate Tribunal, Mumbai; Chairman - Adjudicating
Authority, Prevention of Money Laundering; Judicial Member at the Income-tax
Appellate Tribunal; Arbitrator and Appellate Authority under Permanent Machinery
of Arbitration of Government of India (PMA) in more than hundred Arbitration
matters.
His significant foreign assignments include that of being the Head of Indian
Delegation to Vienna and New York to participate in the meeting of UNCITRAL
relating to Arbitration, Conciliation and Mediation; Mr. Malhotra represented India
before WTO Dispute Resolution Panel in Geneva in dispute between India-EU; He has
also participated in several meetings relating to Bilateral Investment Agreements with
USA, Australia, Hong Kong, China, Oman; He has also negotiated Mutual Legal
Assistant Treaty in Criminal Matters with Philippines and dealt with Double Taxation
Avoidance Agreements with different countries; He was also on a foreign assignment
to Government of Guyana (South America) as Legal Adviser in the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs for two years.
She has advised on Joint Venture Agreements, inbound and outbound, intellectual
property audit and mentors start-ups on their funding rounds, e-commerce and
Internet related transactions, including critical issues relating to co-branding, content
licensing, platform agreements and cyber related IPR issues.
She has an extensive research background and was awarded the Monash Research
Scholarship (Australia) to conduct research in the area of Cyber Crime and Policing.
During her stint in Australia, she also taught Contract law, Commercial Law and
Criminal Law at Monash University and Victoria University.
She was the Fulbright- Nehru scholar to India during 2013-2014. She is
an expert in cooperative and collaborative teaching pedagogy and has provided
workshops for faculty on this pedagogy and assisted them with curriculum
development.
In 2016 she delivered a Symposium for Indian faculty and administrators on creating
a National Paralegal Education Training Program in India, as part of a workforce skill
development program and expansion of community colleges within India.
Dr. Danixia has served as a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellow for the
Fannie Lou Hamer Civil Rights Institute in Jackson, Mississippi. Additionally, she
has been the recipient of two Endowed Teaching Chairs at MDC, awarded for faculty
teaching excellence; The 2016 Daniel K. Gill Endowed Teaching Chair and the 2007
Wachovia Bank Endowed Teaching Chair.
Dr. Danixia has created numerous service-learning projects for her paralegal students
to become engaged citizens. She along with her students have worked to provide
services to the local homeless community, victims of domestic violence and the local
immigrant community. Additionally, she participated in a pilot project with the
American Bar Association and Girl Scouts of America, Take Charge, which taught
young girls about domestic violence. She has been closely associated with ASPIRA, a
national non-profit organization dedicated to empowering children to become leaders
through education.
He was Patron and Chairman of the Advisory Council of International Centre for
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ICADR), Regional Centre, Hyderabad and was also
the Chancellor of NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad. He assumed the office of
Chief Justice of Bombay High Court on 11.02.2010 and was elevated as a Judge of the
Supreme Court of India on 30.04.2010.
Abir is also a Guest Faculty Member at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Banking and
Finance (JNIBF) at Hyderabad and has conducted various sessions at law schools
across the country. He is also part of the Editorial Panel of Company Ninja, an online
resource initiative by Jus Dicere dedicated to academic content related to Company
Law.
Besides being an avid reader of Economics, Philosophy, literature and regular writer
in several national English dailies on contemporary legal and policy issues, Justice
Panigrahi is a passionate music lover and cultural enthusiast.
