Journal writing:

This session was about Knowing about Cross-Cultural Communication pre reading from The Art and
Science of Business Communication Pg. 163 – 175. Business Communication Pg. 88-101 first we did
an individual activity of a Self-Assessment Exercise on communication in that we had 80 questions
which was in pair we selected of our preference and added the score of all the styles of
communication in that the score of mine as follows

When we did this activity, we came to know our communication style I am a people-oriented person
and the characteristics Allow for small talk (Do not start the discussion immediately),Stress the
relationships between your proposal and the people concerned, Show how the idea worked well in
the past, Indicate support from well-respected people, Use an informal writing style when we go in
detail about this we will get to know more and more about this style People Needs Motivations
Teamwork Communications Feelings Team spirit Understanding etc

After this there was an activity on cross culture communication mam divided into 2 people my
colleague was Purvi Jain we discussed various aspects in the on the basis of Hofstede's Cultural
Dimensions and the Communication Styles handout we discussed in the classroom and did a
comparative analysis firstly when we talk about Gender, she is female, and she has studied from Co-
Ed Schooling and even I am from same co-ed schooling, Science VS Non science her background is
commerce and she prefer non – science and even I prefer commerce because I am familiar with
various aspects of commerce and I have studied from commerce background even she had studied
from commerce background , She is not a single child and even I am not a single child ,she belongs
to Working Family even my family belongs to working family my father is a private servant , she
like sports even I like sports to , she has lived in more then 2 cities and even I have lived in more
than 1 cities now also we are in different city that is Indore , we both are hosteler ,I belong to
Nuclear family and she belongs to Joint Family, we Both have work experience I have for 3 months
and she has for 1 year ,we are Ambivert in nature she don’t talk to people much and even me I have
few people I love to talk with them we are both Ambivert in nature . from this analysis we come to
know about the different dimensions firstly Power Distance This dimension expresses the degree to
which the less powerful members of a society accept and expect that power is distributed unequally:
beliefs about the appropriate distribution of power in society. Individualism the
Individualism/Collectivism dimension is about the relative importance of individual versus group
interests. Masculinity preference in society for achievement, heroism, assertiveness and material
rewards for success. Society at large is more competitive. Its opposite, femininity, stands for a
preference for cooperation. Uncertainty Avoidance the Uncertainty Avoidance dimension expresses
the degree to which the members of a society feel uncomfortable with uncertainty and ambiguity. In
addition, its impact on rule making is taken into account.
After this we also disused various dimensions she with various we rated those questions from 1 to 5

Power Distance

1.People in higher positions should make most decisions without consulting people in lower
positions –

above questions is more in this the characteristics of this dimensions is Every society has to maintain
some links with its own past while dealing with the challenges of the present and the future.
Societies prioritize these two existential goals directly that’s all .
