Lesson 3
Although scholarly debate continues about the exact causes of the Revolution, the
following reasons are commonly adduced: (1) the bourgeoisie resented its
exclusion from political power and positions of honor; (2) the peasants were
acutely aware of their situation and were less and less willing to support the
anachronistic and burdensome feudal system; (3) the philosophes had been read
more widely in France than anywhere else; (4) French participation in
the American Revolution had driven the government to the brink of bankruptcy;
(5) France was the most populous country in Europe, and crop failures in much of
the country in 1788, coming on top of a long period of economic
difficulties, compounded existing restlessness; and (6) the French monarchy, no
longer seen as divinely ordained, was unable to adapt to the political and societal
pressures that were being exerted on it.

Lesson 4
1. Explain why the South and Central America sometimes called the Latin America?
The Latin America consists of Mexico, the Caribbean and most of Central and
South America. In these countries, residents speak mostly Spanish and Portuguese.
These two languages are classified as Romance languages, which are derived from
Latin. So hence the name Latin America.
2. What were the positive and negative effects of the Industrial Revolution?
The Industrial Revolution had many positive effects. Among those was an
increase in wealth, the production of goods, and the standard of living. People
had access to healthier diets, better housing, and cheaper goods. In addition,
education increased during the Industrial Revolution. negative elements,
including: poor working conditions, poor living conditions, low wages, child
labor, and pollution.
Many Latin Americans began selling their goods illegally to the British
colonies and, after 1783, U.S. merchants. By the late 18th century, Spain was
forced to loosen some trade restrictions, but the move was too little, too late, as
those who produced these goods now demanded a fair price for them.
4. How did the US, French, and Latin American Revolutions influence the Philippines in
the 19th century?
The success of the American Revolution showed that foreign rule could be
thrown off. The French Revolution showed that the people could overthrow an
unjust monarch. These two events inspired revolutions in Latin America, which
had profound effects on the Spanish, Portuguese and French colonies in the
Americas
Lesson 5
Answer the following questions:
3. Compare the way women got the vote in Britain, US and the Philippines. Why is it good
thing to give women more rights? Are there countries where women do not have the right to
vote?
It leads to better legal protections. Under the law, women aren't well-
protected from domestic sexual and economic violence. Both of these
types of violence affect a woman's safety and freedom. Increasing
women's legal rights keeps them safe and able to build productive happy
lives. There’s only one country where women don’t have the legal right
to vote: Vatican City. This is because there is only one time when people
vote, and that is when the cardinals elect the next Pope. And only men are
cardinals.

Lesson 7
Answer the following questions:
One of the most important features of the scientific method is its repeatability.
The experiments performed to prove a working hypothesis must clearly record all
details so that others may replicate them and eventually allow the hypothesis to
become widely accepted. Sociologists can use the scientific method not only to
collect but also to interpret and analyze the data. The scientific method provides a
systematic, organized series of steps that help ensure objectivity and consistency
in exploring a social problem. They provide the means for accuracy, reliability,
and validity.
4. What is your choice for a career in life? Would you be a scientist, teacher, entrepreneur,
