MADM 701: MODULE ASSIGNMENT 4

Leadership is an important component of every civilization since it comes with the

authority and ability to make decisions in any given situation. Leadership skills are a highly

prized and sought-after commodity. It is a constantly changing parameter in an ever-changing

environment, and it has evolved through time to be an interactive and complex topic that is

always evolving. As a consequence of these developments, it is essential to research and develop

new leadership methods that are appropriate for the growing demands of the job. In contrast to

the past, today's leaders are taught, mentored, and evaluated in order to mold the most suitable

characters for the needs of the game's requirements. I used the Authentic Leadership

Questionnaire and the LMX (Leader-Member Exchange) Questionnaire to assess my leadership

skills.

Using the Authentic Leadership Questionnaire, I found out that I was a goal-oriented

leader. This is true because a goal-oriented approach to leadership includes the establishment of

clear and precise objectives in situations, in which it is recognized, based on previous

experience, that they can be accomplished. I am very good at coming up with solutions when

there are emergencies or any problems that may arise in my line of duty. Furthermore, I have the

capability to communicate objective goals to subordinates and make them focus on the goals to

be achieved. Self-awareness was ranked as my weakest quality, whereas the other qualities were

placed in the high range or just on the edge of it. This does not come as a total surprise to me

since I am well aware of the dearth of characteristics that are used to assess self-awareness, such

as the ability to recognize one's own strengths and shortcomings.

When I completed the LMX (Leader-Member Exchange) Questionnaire, my responses as

a subordinate and as a leader received excellent marks, indicating that I answered the questions

well. The scores obtained as a leader were somewhat higher than those obtained as a follower,

although both were in the upper echelons. Trust, respect, and duty were the three components of

a connection that the questionnaire was designed to assess, as shown in the LMX-7 leadership

tool. My total score as a leader was greater than my overall score in the follower category, which

I discovered after reviewing my results. I think that this is a reasonable assessment because, as a

leader, I believe that I would have more control over my relationships with my subordinates and

a greater impact on creating a good working atmosphere than I could have as a subordinate. It

appears to me that the fact that all of my responses as a leader received high marks indicates that,

as a leader, I would be more likely than not to strive to establish positive relationships with my

subordinates as well as a positive working environment.

I think that, despite my excellent scores on the questionnaires, there are a few additional

characteristics that I might work on to improve my ability to build good relationships with my

subordinates and therefore enhance my effectiveness as a leader. In order to achieve this, good

communication must be established, and the leader must strive to become inclusive so that there

are no members of the out-group, but rather everyone feels included and as if they are all

members of the in-group. The benefits of doing so include not just creating a more equitable

work environment, but also enhancing three elements of the leader-member relationship, namely:

mutual respect, mutual trust, and mutual duty.
