DIRECTIONS:

1. If a laptop is available, answers maybe typewritten, font size 12 in a short bond

paper. If cellphone only - handwritten, should be legible and use a short bond
paper. Can be uploaded as picture, just make sure it is very clear to read.
2. Answers should be brief, direct to the point and in a complete sentence. 3.
Answers should be written right after every question. Follow the format of the
activity.
4. Submit by UPLOADING your activity to “CLASSWORK” of the Google
classroom as PDF file.

ACTIVITY NO. 3
IV. ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES
Name: Argonza, Jerleen Mae, Q. TOPIC: ECOSYSTEMS

Major/Year: BSE-Science 1 Deadline: MAY 05, 2021

A. SELF-CHECK ACTIVITY:
Guide Questions:

1. How do the abiotic factors of the environment be of significance to the survival of living
things on Earth?
 Abiotic factors such as oxygen, temperature and light, atmosphere, wind, and soil
have a major influence on living organisms. For example, people need sunlight for
everyday human activities, plants for photosynthesis; soil for plant-surviving and if
ever a human body will have undergo decomposing, the soil will eat its nutrients that
could be used as a fertilizer.

2. What is symbiosis? How could this be of relevance to the existence and reproduction of
animals and plants?
 According to Oxford Languages, symbiosis is the interaction between two different
organisms living in close physical association, typically to the advantage of both. It is
also a mutually beneficial relationship between different people or groups. This is
relevant to the existence and reproduction of plants because plants and animals
share habitats or lifestyles or interact in a specific way. Most symbiosis involve clever
ways to obtain food protection. They may also be dependent on one another for
survival.

3. Why is that the distribution of plants and animals is largely determined by climate?
 In my opinion, the distribution of plants and animals is determined by the
climate is due to their physical function and stamina. There are plants and
animals designed for winter, hot temperatures like the cactus, it can survive in
the desert because it has its own water storage and there it gets energy to
survive. As well as the polar bears, they can't be in hot temperatures because
their bodies can't handle that also other animals can handle the cold and hot
climate.
4. How is chemical energy in food transformed during respiration?
 Through the process of cellular respiration, the energy in
food is converted into energy that can be used by the body's
cells. During cellular respiration, glucose and oxygen are converted into carbon
dioxide and water, and the energy is transferred to ATP (CK-12 Foundation,
2021).

B. ENRICHMENT ACTIVITY:
Guide Questions:
1. Based on your own observations, how could young people like you help in making trees
available again to reduce the warming of the Earth’s surface?
 Based on what I read on the internet, there is a search engine called ecosia where
when you search there and you can plant a tree. You only need to search 45 times
because ecosia funds tree planting for roughly every second. Another one, we have
to encourage the local government to conserve forests, parks, etc. as well as
volunteering in planting trees and joining a campaign about reducing the global
warming.
