February 21: The st udent s of t he Universit y of Dhaka, wit h t he support of t he general public,
arranged massive rallies and meet ings. On 21 February 1952, police opened fire on rallies.
Salam, Barkat , Rafiq, Jabbar and Shafiur died, wit h hundreds of ot hers injured. This is one of t he
very rare incident s in hist ory, where people had t o sacrifice t heir lives for t heir mot her t ongue.

In 1952, PPL discovered a huge nat ural gas field at Sui in Bugt i t ribal area. It was t he sevent h
largest gas field in t he world and t he biggest in Pakist an at t hat t ime. From t hat day t he
nat ural gas got name and fame as "Sui gas" all over t he count ry.
