ABSTRACT

Offshore tension leg platform (TLP) is a compliant type offshore structure where the
tendons are deployed under initial pretension to counteract the excessive buoyancy. TLPs
show large amplitude response under environmental loads due to their compliancy, which
poses threat under extreme loads. In order to reduce the wave impact on TLPs, perforated
cylinders can be used as outer cover to the members at highly stressed regions. It is one of the
practical techniques to retrofit offshore coastal and offshore structures. Use of passive
dampers like Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) is a common control device in structures. In
offshore scenario, it is usually provided as a pendulum. In the present study, it is planned to
explore the study of perforated members & TMDs separately for monitoring the response
mitigation. Studies will also be expanded to the TLP in which both TMD & perforated
members are used together.
