CHALLENGES IN DEEP WATER
RISER SYSTEM
• More pull to vessel
• Commissioning and decommissioning
• More vibrations due to wave and current loadings
• Transfer of motion from vessel to riser system

These challenges are well handled by an hybrid riser

system called SLOR(Single Line Offset Riser)

7-APR-2016 GROUPED SLOR 1

SLOR (SINGLE LINE OFFSET
RISER)
• It’s a free standing riser
• Away from vessel or
platform
• Contains :
• Buoyancy air can
• Gooseneck connector
• Flexible jumper

7-APR-2016 GROUPED SLOR 2

ADVANTAGE
S OF SLOR
• No load(pull) on
floating vessel from
risers

• Excellent fatigue
performance

• Motion transfer from

vessel to risers is
nullified

THERE ARE FEW CHALLENGES
LEFT BEHIND

• CLASHING
• HIGH EXCURSION
• SPATIAL CONSTRAINT DUE TO CONGESTED SEA
BED

THESE ARE HANDLED BY DEVELOPED AND WELL

ARRANGED SYSTEM OF SLOR CALLED GROUPED
SLOR
7-APR-2016 GROUPED SLOR 4
GROUPED SLOR

• Group of SLORs(2 or
more)
• Attached to guide frame
• Buoyancy tanks on guide
frame
• Guide frame attached to
seabed with suction piles

7-APR-2016 GROUPED SLOR 5

ADVANTAGES OF GROUPED
SLOR

• CLASHING IS ALMOST AVOIDED

• EFFCIENT USAGE OF SPACE ALLOTED
• LESS DISPLACEMENT
• PRE-INSTALLABLE grouped

7-APR-2016 GROUPED SLOR 6

AIR CAN
• Buoyancy can
• To keep the riser straight in position
by providing pretension
• Top is attached to guide frame
• Bottom is attached to standard riser
pipe
• Contains horizontal compartments
facilitating air flooding

7-APR-2016 GROUPED SLOR 7

GUIDE FRAME
• Truss frame to connect
system of SLORs
• Contains buoyancy tanks on
it
• It is attached to sea bed by
tethers
• And the tethers are attached
to suction pile foundation

7-APR-2016 GROUPED SLOR 8

• Buoyancy tanks are filled
with nitrogen gas or
synthetic foam
• Receptacles with ultra-
high molecular weight
polyethylene (UHMWPE)
bearing pads

10/18/21 GROUPED SLOR 9

DESIGN
• Buoyancy required from Aircan
• Buoyancy in buoyancy tanks on guide frame
• Suction pile foundation

FORCES

• Drag and lift forces due to currents

• Self weight of the riser

CONCLUSION
• The Grouped SLOR riser system provides a well developed
and attractive riser solution for fields where space is limited,
but high productivity is paramount.
• It offers all the benefits of the freestanding SLOR like pre-
installation advantage before the arrival of vessel, flexibility to
install and remove risers individually, no clashing and
interference issues
• This also provides ease of access for inspection.
