1. Based on your point of view, what is the most notable changes in the
Philippines during the 19th century? 100 words
In my own perspective I think the most notable changes in the Philippines during
the 19th century was about Religious Development. This development became
controversial since the Spaniards colonized us and spread Christianity. During their
colonization , Rizal’s time many were abused by the friars since friars that time holds
much power back then. Friars became teachers in universities, and meddle with the
affairs of the government like collecting taxes, and such. They were not only friars but
the one who mans the government. There were no separation of the church and the
government, and Filipinos were furious as to how the friars imposed rules and hold so
much power that aggravate the anger Filipino had felt towards the friars.

2. How did these changes affect the lives of the Filipinos during 19th
century? 100 words
These particular changes greatly affect Filipinos with regards on how their life
was controlled by the friars and became the victims of abuse and exploitation. Filipinos
were considered as slaves, and inferior. During that time discrimination among Filipinos
were very rampant, and this includes racial discrimination because Filipinos skin color
was dark. Filipinos became laborers even they do not get paid, also known as “polo y
servicio”. In other words this religious changes the lives of the Filipinos as many of their
rights were violated.

3. Upon reading and contextualizing the given information on the condition

of the Philippines during the 19th century, how were these events vital for
the development of Rizal’s love for his country? 100 words
These events leads to the clamor of the Filipinos for liberty. But then given with
these situations Filipinos voice were often neglected and ignored back then. This leads
Rizal movement, propaganda movement and write novels that depicts the life of the
Filipinos in the hands of the Spaniards. These actions made by Rizal,, not only Rizal and
also his other colleagues plays a vital role in Filipinos aiming for freedom. Eventually
became the catalyst of change as Filipinos became aware and together united to oust
Spanish government. Rizal love for his country was wide. Wide enough, to risk his own
life for the sake of Philippine freedom.
