I.

Watch 2 English speeches (any kind) and write down in the table provided below the points
raised in the speeches and any noticeable purposes that the speakers have for delivering the
speeches.

Speech No.1

Motivational speech of success by Steve Harvey titled “When Life Breaks You” is about the
circumstances that he have been through before he became what he is right now. All of wanted to be
successful in life but before we arrived in our destination, we need to take the smooth and bumpy road.
When he delivered the speech it has a clear voice that helps me to understand and a strong emotions
that can convey the audience to listen and focus to him.

In the first part of his speech, he talked about his experienced how miserable his life and he
thinks that he had no purpose. This makes me realize that in reality all of us doesn’t have a good life, we
can suddenly ask ourselves about our purpose in life and in order for us to find out is to take a risk in life.
Just like what Steve Harvey did, he take a risk and lost everything that he had before he became
successful in life. All of us experienced the disappointment of life but we should never give up instead be
brave. Steve Harvey encourage us to expand ourselves, to go out from our comfort zone and took a risk
and accept failure. Failure is such a thing that will always first happen to some of us before we achieved
the things that we strived too hard. I like this line from his speech which is success is very uncomfortable
and we need to get used to being comfortable with the uncomfortable.

Overall, Steven Harvey speech was delivered well and was related to the real life situation. It is a
great speech and indeed a motivational towards the success in life. Let’s all seek our purpose in life and
be comfortable with the uncomfortable.

Speech No.2

The Speech titled “Giving up is the birth place of regrets” by Deshauna Barber is about giving up
is not the solution to become success of what you are trying to achieved for. When She delivered her
speech she has an interaction with her audience through laughing which can ensure that the audience
really paying attention to her. She also has a clear voice and her speech is true to real life.

Barber expressed her experience when she was discovered by a woman to the mall and
convince her to join pageant as she was being told by her that she will be a Miss USA. She agree and join
the pageant but she failed to win for 6 times but at the 7 attempted she finally won. This shows that we
should never give up for how many times we failed and think that it is a process to success because we
learned from it and change some ways until we finally made it. We should also consider for those people
who believe to us because sometimes we need a little push for us to do what we want. Barber was given
a shoes to her mother for her track and she was confused why her mother give her a size 9 instead of 5,
so when she start running, she fall and hurt herself but she still continue. This part is like a journey, we
are growing and may not the same person as today. We should slowly walk and continue even with so
much hindrance that we are encounter. At least we do it and don’t have any regrets because as what
she said giving up is the birth place of regrets. Never give up whatever challenges that we have, keep
going until you make it.

Overall, Deshauna Barber is a great speaker, the tone of her voice are clear and can be easily to
understand. Her eyes are on the audience. The content of her speech can help those people to realize
that we should not give up. I’ll end it with a quote “fall down seven times, stand up eight” it means
choosing to never give up hope, and to always strive for more.
