Problem

A.) What is the existing problem?

1,) What makes it a problem?

2,) Who is/are causing the problem?

The amount of problems to expound from this advertisement is absurd; from the body-shaming

to the discrimination of meat-included diets, there will be a lot of discussion. As people know,

PETA is an advocate for veganism, since they believe that the execution of animals for

sustenance is unethical. Their advocacy for veganism is fine, but the way they executed it is

horrendous. The comparison of the plus size woman in the ad to whale blubber is already as bad

as it is, but insinuating that the inclusion of meat in diets is a sure-fire way to get fat, or

“blubber” as they shamelessly describe it, just takes the cake. It’s the blatant fatphobia and

discrimination for me.

Proposed Solution

1
B.) What solution do you propose to solve or eradicate the problem?

1.) Who will be involved in the solution?

2.) What resources are needed to materialize the solution?

PETA should scrap this disastrous ad as a whole, since everything present in it is

problematic and discriminatory to a margin of people. They could start with an idea or slogan

that entices people to try or adapt veganism, not one that places it as a last resort for people to

guarantee a slim figure. After that, they could start providing concrete details that is inclusive of

all people, and animal-friendly at the same time, to continue making people curious. Moreover,

they could provide statements or illustrations that further support their ideas, so that people can

visualize what they are trying to manifest. All of these factors are necessary and relevant to the

times today, since people have access to more knowledge than ever before, giving them the right

to be influenced, to be intrigued, and to be compelled by advertisements that are true to their

nature and are advocating for the better good, without the need to discriminate or to shame other

people’s choices.

C.) What are the steps you will do to make the proposed solution to happen?

First: Brainstorm an idea that caters to our main goal: to compel people to adapt veganism.

Second: Meet with the heads to layout and create an advertisement that is fit for today’s time,

people, and standards.

Third: Re-assess if there are mistakes in the advertisement or if there are things that are offensive

or problematic

2
Last: Check with people besides the team to spot mistakes or problems, then publish the

advertisement.

D.) What possible problems/difficulties/concerns you might encounter as you implement the

proposed solution?

As long as the ad doesn’t gather the attention of people in a way that is discriminatory,

then I don’t see a problem with the ad given my proposed solutions. Criticism will always be on

veganism’s tail, since it is a different standard from the usual person and people may not agree

with it. However, if people do have a problem or a concern regarding the ad, we will just re-

assess the situation and make that concern as a learning curve for the future.

E.) How do you intend to address each?

Multiple problems may arise in the future, since we can’t guarantee that everyone who sees the

advertisement will be satisfied or properly compensated. If push comes to shove, then we will

handle it in a systematic approach. The first one would be assessing what the problem is, then

knowing where the people got the negative reaction from, after all our main priority is the

audience. Next, examine said problems and deal with them from the root, so that nothing of the

same matter would arise from the future. Finally, put up the new ad, and evaluate what we’ve

learned in creating the past ads, since criticism is an important part in any group’s future and

advocacy.

Recommendations

To disseminate their purpose in the most effective way, I suggest that PETA takes into

account their number one priority: the audience. You see, PETA doesn’t just cater to a certain

age group, they want everyone to see where they’re coming from and what’s their objective.

With that in mind, production of ads is time-consuming and expensive, so they should make an

ad that includes everyone. I know that pleasing everyone is not possible, but taking in the morals

and values of a lot of their audience would help putting their message out there, leading to

engagement, and maybe, to adaptation. Nonetheless, problems will still arise in the future

someway or another, at least know they have the means to learn from their mistakes and make an

even better ad.
