Assignment 2:

1. When analyzing the piece of van Gogh, it is clear that it is mostly consists of curved lines
however vertical, diagonal, and horizontal lines are observed on the houses. The houses are also
made of shares such as rectangles, squares, triangles, etc. As for the color, the color mostly used
is blue and shades of blue however, there are also shades of yellow and green to emphasize the
sun and houses. As for the Form, there where 3-Dimensional houses in the lower part of the art
piece. Also, the space was well distributed and there were no awkward spaces since it is filled
with shapes. Lastly, the art piece provided a rough texture when you look at it since it is made of
lines.
2. In Vincent van Gogh’s art piece, we can observe the proper use of the principles of art. The piece
is balanced asymmetrically. It is asymmetrically balanced because on the left side, there is a
tree, while on the right side, there is a crescent moon, both important pieces in the painting.
Emphasis was also used by making the tree bigger than the houses and applying lighter colors to
make the sky clearer. As for the Contrast, van Gogh made use of the color Blue and Yellow to
create contrast within the painting. In addition, the painting provided a smooth movement
through the use of lines which made the sky look like its flowing. As for the Repetition, the stars
were repeated yet placed on different parts of the canvas. With all these added, it created unity
and did not have any distractions at all. It looks clean and whole. This made van Gogh’s painting
more interesting because he made such art with his own style.
3. Overall, considering the elements used and techniques used by van Gogh, I was really amazed
because he thought about a style that is very unique, yet made the painting stand out. It created
something excellent since it made the painting look like it is moving. With a mind and creativity
like van Gogh, the ideas that can be made is unlimited and unique, and the art that may be
shown to people will surely get the people’s attention.
