Effects of Noise Pollution in Textile Industry

Presented By- Shubhi Sethi

Introduction
- Noise is an unwanted sound that interferes with the function in a given space. It is
subjective because what is disturbing and unacceptable to one may be acceptable to
other.
- Generally, noise is a disturbing sound, regardless of its intensity and duration.
- Noise Pollution is defined as ‘ a group of laud, non- harmonious sound or vibrations that
are unpleasant and irritating to ear and have harmful effects on the environment.
- In recent years, even a developing country like India has taken positive steps against
excessive noise. Like Air and Water pollution, Noise Pollution has been accepted as a
major threat to human beings. It has been recognized that noise of a sufficient intensity
can damage hearing.
- The research highlights the noise in the textile industry, its effects on the workers and the
measures taken by machine manufacturers to reduce their noise emission.
Effects of Noise at Different Decibel Level
.

S.No Range in Decibel Effects

01 Below in 65 db Durable

02 80 db Irritating/Annoying

03 88 db Hearing disorder if
prolonged exposure

04 110 db Discomfort and may cause

hearing loss

05 135 db and above Painful

Sources of Noise
- Domestic Noise- It includes the operation of radio, TV, record player etc with high
volume.
- Public Noise- It includes the operation of loud speakers with high volume. It may also
include use of vacuum cleaner for a long time.
- Traffic Noise- It includes the movements and horns of vehicle like buses, trucks, cars
etc with high sleep along the roads of the towns or cities.
- Construction Noise- It includes the sound created by the concrete mixture
machines, mosaic polishing machine and vibrator.
- Industrial Noise- It includes sound created by stone crushing factory, glass factory,
spinning machines, weaving machines, aluminium factory, motor garage etc.

Textile Noise Pollution Control
- The textile industrial noise may be avoided by keeping the industries far from
residential areas.
- In Spinning, noise can be reduced by Elastomeric spindles and ring holders.
- Proper maintenance and lubrication of the machinery needs to be done.
- Replacement of metal parts with rubber or nylon coated material to be done.
- Tightening of loose parts of the machinery to be done properly as to avoid vibrations.
- Usage of Anti Rubber Vibration sheet.
- Usage of Vibration isolators to prevent noise transmission
- Usage of Sound Absorbers
- Usage of Ear Corded or Ear Plugs in the workplace.
