Remember: The Báb instructs Mullá Husayn

Mullá Husayn was stunned by all that The Báb revealed in making His Declaration on the night of May 22 nd to 23rd
in 1844 A.D., or 1260 A.H. in the Muslim calendar. After revealing the verses of the Qayyúmu’l-Asmá’, he
addressed Mullá Husayn with these words: “O thou who art the first to believe in Me! Verily I say, I am the Báb,
the Gate of God, and thou art the Bábu’l-Báb, the gate of that Gate. Eighteen souls must, in the beginning,
spontaneously and of their own accord, accept Me and recognize the truth of My Revelation. Unwarned and
uninvited, each of these must seek independently to find Me. And when their number is complete, one of them must
needs be chosen to accompany Me on My pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina. There I shall deliver the Message of
God to the Sharíf of Mecca. I then shall return to Kúfih, where again, in the Masjid (mosque) of that holy city, I
shall manifest His Cause…” The Báb also told him not to tell his companions or anyone else what he had seen and
heard that night, but to go to the mosque and pray and teach the truths he’d learned from Siyyid Kázim. He told him
that they would both go to Hijáz together, but before they left, they would appoint unto each of the eighteen souls a
special mission and send them forth to teach the Word of God and to quicken the souls of men. These eighteen,
along with the Báb, would form the body of the “Letters of the Living,” the first believers of the new Revelation.
Mullá Husayn felt possessed of such courage and power from the knowledge of The Báb’s Revelation that he felt
like the Voice of Gabriel personified. The promise of all religions had been fulfilled. The most difficult days of his
life were the 40 days when he was the only believer in the Báb and had to keep this secret.

Memory Verse: Practice many times every day. Say it in class next time.

“O My beloved friends! You are the bearers of the name of God in this Day. You have been chosen as the repositories of His mystery. It
behoves each one of you to manifest the attributes of God, and to exemplify by your deeds and words the signs of His righteousness, His
power and glory. The very members of your body must bear witness to the loftiness of your purpose, the integrity of your life, the reality
of your faith, and the exalted character of your devotion. For verily I say, this is the Day spoken of by God in His Book:
For verily I say, this is the Day spoken of by God in His Book: ‘On that day will We set
a seal upon their mouths yet shall their hands speak unto Us, and their feet shall
bear witness to that which they shall have done.’”
— The Báb, The Dawn-Breakers: Nabíl’s Narrative of the Early Days of the Bahá’í Revelation, p. 92-94
