BUS 5112: MARKTING MANAGEMENT

UNIT 8 PORTFOLIO ACTIVITY

What did you find enlightening?

This course really broadened my understanding and perspective on marketing dynamics. It has also

improved my understanding of marketing concepts and the critical thought and research involved.

My understanding of the components of marketing (4Ps), communication, marketing strategies and

pricing strategy will help me to successfully managing any type of business. During the 8weeks of

the course, I was able to demonstrate my analysis skills and my ability for simply communicating

ideas and thoughts through the Discussion group forum, written projects and Portfolio activities. I

now recognize the importance of not just studying a topic but also qualifying my findings with

appropriate references and syntheses. This, I believe, will make a significant contribution to my

career advancement.

The course has fundamentally altered my perspective on the industry. I have a HR (Human

Resource) perspective, which is still a form of business. “HR managers manage strategies to ensure

the organization reaches its business goals, as well as contributing significantly to the corporate

decision-making process, which includes assessments for current employees and predictions for

future ones based on business demands” (2020).

Did you find anything that was surprising to you?

I have always been taught in a classroom, and meet with my lectures and class physically. At first I

was unsure how I was going to cope with an online school and virtual classmates, however I was

surprised with quality of reading materials given and the strictness with assignment quality and

submissions. The activities disciplined me to set my priorities to meet up with the deadlines of
submission. I was also surprised at how the group projects were efficiently and successfully

completed despite our geographical and time zone differences.

“The sales cycle—how long it takes to close a sale—can be measured in steps, in days, or in months”

(2015). I was surprised to find out that how long it takes to close a deal can be measured; the sales

cycle is a fundamental unit of measurement that indicates how long it takes to complete a

transaction. Salespeople evaluate their performance at each stage of the sales cycle in order to

pinpoint areas where they may improve. With the same amount of effort, a salesman who shortens

the sales cycle can make more income. Salespeople often keep track of their conversion rates to see

which phases of the sales cycle they are in.

What did you find to be the most useful information for you as a business professional?

Everyone has been a very valuable source of knowledge from books to the suggested video tutorials.

I'm now more comfortable with how to set up my own company. The quality of the materials has

given me great insights on how to start up and successfully run my own business. Customer

awareness, brand strategy, product life cycle, marketing methods, communications, and delivery

platforms are all things that can help me start my own business. After I've reconciled the course

information with my due diligence, I'm hoping to see positive results in future firms.
