CONNECTING CENSTAR PUMPS

Censtar is a mainland China pump manufacturer with two types of pumps that are connected and configured differently.

Censtar has two protocols using the following hardware connections: RS-422, Current Loop and RS-485.

Important notes: Connecting Censtar pumps

1. Current Loop and RS-485 options are supported by Enabler (RS-422 is not supported).

2. The minimum Pump firmware and Enabler Card firmware versions for compatibility are summarised below. Software versions higher (later) than
these are expected to work:

Region Censtar Pump controller Enabler Pump Type Pump Firmware Version for Enabler Enabler Card Firmware Version

China Censtar 6500 Censtar - 6500 1.38 4.35.2

Philippines Censtar 3100 Censtar - 6500 31070V002 4.41.2

Thailand Censtar 3100 Censtar - 3100 31099V1012 4.41.2

Censtar 4200 Censtar - 4200 42026V109 4.41.2

Other Other Pump Types Other N/A 3.50

Note 3: Mainland China laws restricts pumps to accept a limited number of price changes per day. Thus, double check before entering the prices in the
Enabler configuration grade pricing tab, and ensure that each pump configured has the correct Grade assigned for its Hose.
Physical connection
The FDM to be used depends on the Communication Board (Current Loop or RS485) fitted with the Pump. Select the corresponding interface type
to see setup details. Refer to the Configuring the Pump section below for more information.

Current Loop (P/N: 3100-DIV23V01)

RS485 (P/N: CS485)

To connect to The Enabler you will require:

1. FDM Part#: FDM192

a. One FDM can connect 8 hoses (each physical hose is setup as a logical pump in
The Enabler)
b. Unlike other RS-485 protocols, it is not possible to use the usual passive FDM or
direct connection to the Enabler RS-485 ports.
2. FDM Jumper Setting

J1 J2 Pump Type

OFF OFF Scheidt & Bachmann

ON OFF Censtar, Eaglestar or Sanki2005

OFF ON LanFeng MPD

ON ON BlueSky

3. FDM Power supply: 9-15V DC, 1A, regulated power supply

a. When powered on, the yellow LED marked Pwr in the middle of the board will be
lit.
b. See our Power Supply FAQ for more information.
4. DB25 female connector with backshell, cable clamp, etc

5. Shielded multi-strand cable with 3 or more cores, to suit distance between PC and FDM
- maximum 10 metres (32.8 feet). Example

6. Tools: wire stripper, soldering iron, solder, 3mm flat blade screwdriver.
7. Cabling to pumps if necessary. You can use the same shielded multi-core, multi-strand
cable as above.
To connect your pumps, locate the RS485 A and B pins from within your pump computer
board, and connect this with any of the FDM channels.
Connecting FDM to Enabler
Select which Enabler port (1-4) you will use. Strip the ends of the shielded cable. Solder one
end to the port pins on the DB25 socket. Connect the shield to the GND pin. Leave the other
ends bare to connect to the FDM.

Unlike most other FDMs, the RS232 labels are from the Enabler's perspective. So Rx goes
to Rx, Tx to Tx.

Once completed, fit the clamp to the cables entering the DB25, and close the backshell on the
DB25.
Configuring the Pump
Pumps manufactured before 1998
Censtar pumps manufactured before 1998 have only one method of connection to the controller. The communication electronics are built-in the main
processing board and are identifiable by these features:

Only support one nozzle on each main board.

Manufactured before 1998.
Electronics do not contain any surface mount chips

These pumps support the Censtar - Native protocol.

Pumps manufactured after 1999

Censtar pumps manufactured after 1999 must be fitted with a separate Communications Circuit board. These communication boards are to be ordered
directly from Censtar. There are four variations of this board from which only two types (current loop types) are compatible with Enabler.

1. Current Loop communications board as shown in the picture below. This board has a 20 pins chip above the connection terminal block.

The pump supports the Censtar Conv protocol.

2. Alternate Current Loop board shown below. The Censtar P/N for this is: 3100-DIV23V01.
This communication board has been tested for both Censtar Native and Censtar 6500 protocols.

3. RS-422 communications boards (two varieties, also known as RS485). They look similar to the other boards except for Y, Z, A and B markings near
the green communications connector.

Enabler is not compatible with these RS-422 boards and they must be replaced with a Current Loop board.

4. RS-485 communication board shown below. The Censtar P/N for this is: CS485.
This communication board has been tested for both Censtar 3100 and Censtar 4200 pump types.

Some pumps (such as 3100 pump type) have a set of jumpers on the main board.
Jumper between J9 and J10 are used to determine communication checksum types:
For Thailand market: please remove the jumper in order to allow communication with the Enabler;
For Philippines market: please short circuit the jumper in order to allow communication with the Enabler.
The picture below shows the location of the jumpers.
Configuring Enabler
Using the Web Applications > Configuration:

Ports: Select a port type for the port the FDM that is connected as below:

1. Censtar - Conv (Interface board 1 above).

2. Censtar - Native (Manufactured before 1998 or Interface board 2 above).

3. Censtar International CL (Current Loop Interface board 2 usually found with Censtar 6500).

Advanced Description
Setting

CONSOLE=x By default, Censtar 3100 and 4200 run in Monitor Mode (pumps delivers by itself).

To enabler Console Mode(POS authorization required) for 4200 and 3100 pump types, enter the advanced setting CONSOLE with
the following values:

CONSOLE=1: Using preset to simulate POS authorization control, this requires Censtar driver v2.4.7 or newer;

CONSOLE=2: Lift a nozzle twice to complete a POS authorization (refer to the following instruction), this requires Censtar
3100 pump type and Censtar driver v2.4.8 or newer:

1. Lift a nozzle to trigger a delivery request.

2. The operator authorises the delivery request by clicking the CALLING pump icon.

3. Customer needs to put the nozzle back, lift it again and then the delivery can be made.

This advanced setting is not compatible with Censtar 6500 pump type.
Troubleshooting
Symptom Possible Cause(s)

Pump doesn't stop at preset Known Pump issue: Please make sure the preset command is accepted by the pump which will be displayed
on the display.

A preset or limit set using The Enabler API (to send to the pump) is required before lifting the nozzle. The
pump does not accept a fuelling limit once the nozzle is lifted.

For Censtar 4200 pump type with multi hose configuration, check the hose is selected before sending the
preset to the pump, otherwise the preset will set to hose 1.

Pump stops before the preset limit The maximum volume or money in one delivery is 9999.00L or $9999.00 respectively, pump will stop fuelling
when either value reaches the limit.

Pump displays Censtar 3100, 4200 and 6500 pump types support recalling transactions. Any deliveries made while the pump
was offline will be recorded and stacked in Enabler.

after going back online

Pump delivers automatically By default, Censtar pumps run in Monitor mode. Refer to the CONSOLE Advanced setting if this is not
desired.
If you already have CONSOLE=1 and the pump still delivers automatically, your pump is more likely a Censtar
6500 and not a 4200/3100.

Pump does not deliver fuel after Use AuthorisePreset (Authorisation Preset) with the maximum value/volume allowable instead of the normal
POS authorisation in Console Authorise command.
Mode

Pump nozzle lifts are not detected This is a known pump limitation. Please contact your local Censtar distributor for a pump firmware upgrade.
Pump still automatically delivers on This is a known issue for 3100 pumps. Succeeding nozzle lifts will require POS authorisation.
first nozzle lift even in Console
Mode

3100 pump type intermittently This issue is caused by a jumper setting on the 3100 mainboard, please refer to the jumper setting here, and
goes online and offline. please refer to the pump type mapping table to configure the correct pump type.
