CRITICAL ANALYSIS ON “STRUGGLES WITH MEANINGLESS THINGS” AND “SLOW DANCE”

Words can be deceiving, sweet, bitter to the touch and even compelling. In poetry we
use this variety of words to fabricate lines and phrases with meanings that the mind of a person will
unravel, hearts riding through an escapade of emotions and souls wanting and longing for more.
Poetry in other words is “what we make or what we create”, having said this, we can always
consider the fact that it is ubiquitous. Reading poems in the naked eye shows mere words and
phrases, but with deep love in literature, you live to read each line and words full of emotions and
feelings. Upon reading, lines will come to elucidate its hidden meanings and there, we can
appreciate its beauty and wisdom behind it. Two poems that are yet to be elucidated in this essay
are “Slow dance” and “Struggles with Meaningless Things”.

“Struggles with Meaningless Things” pertains to a person who is possessing things such
as books, fax machines, binders and many more that aren’t related or irrelevant in his pursuit in life.
Reading through this poem is like reading a list of paper consisting things that are unnecessary to be
bought. This poem speaks all about these meaningless things, however, in the process it will soon to
become meaningful.

“Slow Dance” is a poem where the readers are bombarded with questions inevitably
carrying guilt to build a thought in our minds whether our actions in our past are acceptable or
somewhat mediocre. It is like a point of view to someone who has greater knowledge and
experience in the past and sharing it to us who are misguided in our own actions and doings.

The two poems points out two good points in our lives. The first one, being able to
discard all the unnecessary things in life for us to move forward in reaching our goals and dreams,
and the other one, living in the moment wherein we enjoy every bit the world has given to us.
Struggles with meaningless things points out that we, especially the youth need to learn how grab
not the unnecessary things but the opposite. Holding on to important relationships, and letting go
the toxic ones, for they don’t help anything in our lives. Slow dance takes us in a moment where we
can realize that we need to slow things down in order for us to enjoy life towards our own
satisfaction. We need not to worry about the future, for time is short and life is great when we live it
in the moment.

To sum up everything, life as we know is getting shorter, and both of the poem made us
realized that we need to enjoy every moment life gives us and receive satisfaction in every moment.
For every moment is a gift to treasure and to treasure is that gift.
