Zygote- which begins as a one-cell structure.

Placenta- is a structure connected to the uterus that provides nourishment and oxygen from the mother to
the developing embryo via the umbilical cord.
Fetus- When the organism is about nine weeks old, the embryo.
Teratogens- are factors that can contribute to birth defects which include some maternal diseases, drugs,
alcohol, and stress.
Neural tubes- this tube will later develop into the central nervous system including the spinal cord and
brain.
Germinal stage/ phase- begins at conception when the sperm and egg cell unite in one of the two fallopian
tubes. 
Embryonic stage/ phase- The beginning of the third week after conception marks the start of the
embryonic period, a time when the mass of cells becomes distinct as a human. 
Fetal stage/ phase- Once cell differentiation is mostly complete, the embryo enters the next stage and
becomes known as a fetus.
