ART APPRECIATION: PRELIM

PRELIM ACTIVITY # 1

Distribution Date: September 11, 2021

Activity 01: REFLECT AND REACT

Based on your readings, answer each question by expounding your thoughts

comprehensively into four - five sentences only.

1. If you were an artist, what kind of artist would you be?

I really wanted to be a singer-songwriter artist someday. Aside from the fact that
it is one of my childhood dreams and passion, I really wanted to share my God-given
talent to other people that they may be able to hear or listen my very own song
compositions about my life, self and good/bad experiences that I’ve been through. With
this, I hope that this would inspire other people and it would change people’s lives and
perspectives about the world. Hence, may my creativity through my masterpieces
touch people’s hearts and souls, and send them to another dimension or imaginary
world that I’ve created.

2. Why is art not nature?

Art is not nature because nature is something that God has created for the
humans; it is a phenomenon, and the contents of the universe. Meanwhile, art is an
interpretation of nature; it is a modelling tool for diving deeper into the patterns,
rhythms and meanings tossed up by nature through interpreting, reframing and
understanding them. Art can easily exist conceptually, without embodiment, whereas
nature is pure embodiment, existent with or without conceptuality. Thus, I can say that
art is appended to nature and exists only because we create it. If art-creators became
extinct, art would also become extinct – but nature would persist.

3. Why is art ageless and timeless?

Art is ageless because anyone can do art, even a child can do a masterpiece. It
does not matter at what time art emerges or when it has been discovered. As long as it
can still be seen, heard or touched today, then it’s a proof that art did not even age. Art
is timeless because it varies from generation to generation which makes it relatable to
everyone. The ideas or emotions expressed with art are experienced universally,
making its value independent of age on time.
4. Why does art involve experience?

Art is not merely the process by the artist; it involves both the artist and the
active observer who encounter each other, their mental environments, and their culture
at large. Art is not just a recording of human experience, but it is an involvement of
human experience. Any expression of oneself by its very basic nature is based on
one's experiences. One's experience build who that individual is: their opinions, their
emotions, their lifestyle, everything. Thus, this means that art is subjective; it’s not
about skills or techniques, but it’s about emotions, creativity and how you feel about the
world.
