ONLINE TRAVEL SERVICES: How did Sabre online ticketing change the travel

industry?

Online travel is one of the most successful B2C e-commerce segments, and accounts for almost one-third
of all U.S. B2C ecommerce revenues in 2016. The Internet has become the most common channel used
by consumers to research travel options, seek the best possible prices, and book reservations for airline
tickets, hotel rooms, rental cars, cruises, and tours. Today, more travel is booked online than offline. In
2016, about 138 million (64% of all U.S. Internet users) are expected to research travel and about 115
million will book travel online. Online travel services revenues are expected to reach over $180 billion in
2016, and continue growing to over $213 billion by 2020 (see Figure 9.5) (eMarketer, Inc., 2016j, 2016k).
