Read and then answer to the following questi ons:

a. Outline two key features of the JIT stock control system.

Two key features of the JIT stock control system could be the following:
 Storage cost reduction
This technique involves reducing stocks. That is, to promote the significant reduction of
both the cost and the products and production time. It also improves liquidity due to
stock reduction.
 Continuous production
With the Just-in-Time method, the stages of the production process are independent
and follow the rhythm of production. It is a philosophy that seeks to simplify
production so that the method is simpler and more effective. It is responsible for
preventing defects and working throughout the procedure. And it also finds the causes
of problems and provides solutions to improve the production process.
b. Define de 5 S and what they involve.
Implementation of the 5 in a company
Classification (Seiri) - In this phase, the essential materials for the job are identified
and classified. The purpose of each tool or resource and the frequency with which
it is used to eliminate or remove anything unnecessary that may hinder or slow
down the work is analyzed. In the end, it is convenient to take an inventory of the
work.
Organization (Seiton) - In this phase, the necessary materials are arranged. In that
way, they are easy to locate. It takes into account who uses them when they are
used and where is the best place to put them. They can be grouped by categories
or even add tags. This prevents workers from wasting time searching for tools, and
unnecessary travel is reduced.
Cleanliness (Seiso) Just as important as ordering the workplace is keeping it clean.
That is why, this step of the 5 o'clock methodology focuses on cleaning, which has
a positive impact on work motivation and contributes to reducing work accidents.
It is also important to plan the systematic maintenance of equipment and
machinery so that potential problems can be detected and costly breakdowns
avoided.
Standardize (Seiketsu) This phase focuses on standardizing processes so that
workers can identify abnormal situations and correct faults. This prevents
everything from going back to the way it was before. If the workspace is large, it

helps to have a checklist, as well as to name the people responsible for the
different cleaning and organizing tasks.
Improve (Shitsuke) - Applying the 5s methodology implies carrying out systematic
evaluations and getting involved in continuous work to maintain cleaning and
organization standards, as well as detecting new aspects that can be improved.
c. Outline the key features of the Cradle to cradle system.
Cradle to cradle can be defined as the design and production of products of all types in
such a way that at the end of their life, they can be truly recycled (upcycled), imitating
nature's cycle with everything either recycled or returned to the earth, directly or
indirectly through food, as a completely safe, nontoxic.
