1. Objective
Establishing a safe working system to isolate the sources of energy from the moving parts of equipment
and machinery in cases of installation or maintenance in order to prevent any accidents that may occur
due to the equipment while working on it.
2. Scope
All the places and work departments in the Pharco Corporate in which there is any machine or equipment
that is managed by any source of energy (electrical energy - mechanical energy - hydraulic energy -
pneumatic energy - chemical energy - thermal energy - gas energy).
3. Abbreviations /Definitions
They are devices used to isolate the driving forces from machines and
equipment. Some examples of this are:
Manually Operated Electrical Circuit Breakers.
Energy Isolation
Blind Flanges for Insulating Pipes.
Devices
Chains and locks to secure the closure of valves and valves.
Disconnect Switches.
Padlocks (used to lock some types of electrical panels).
Energy sources All energy sources may cause injury and harm to workers and are as
follows:
Electrical sources.
Mechanical sources.
Hydraulic sources.
Pneumatic sources.
Chemical sources.
Thermal sources.
Gases. Electrical Energy
It is a type of lock that has only one key, used to isolate the motive power
from devices and equipment so that this key is with the responsible person
Safety Padlock who isolated the power source so that power is not returned to the devices
except by this person only.
It is the energy remaining in the connections of the equipment or the
Residual Pressure machine after the motive power is isolated from it (for example,
compressed air inside the pipes after closing the valve).

Prevent any accidents that may occur or mitigate its consequence if they happened due to the
maintenance works.
8. Procedures:
In the event that it is necessary to carry out repair and maintenance work on any equipment or device in
any of the various locations of the facility, the following steps shall be followed:
8.1. The official at the site where this equipment is located shall inform the maintenance
department about the defect in the equipment and that it needs repair and maintenance.
8.2. The official at the site where this equipment is located shall stop it from working in the usual
way by pressing the stop buttons with it.
Fig no.01
The site official shall disconnect the electric current - close the gas valves - close the compressed air
and steam valves on the equipment on which maintenance work is to be performed.
8-4) the site official makes sure that the motor power is isolated from the equipment properly by
trying to operate it after isolation to ensure that it does not work again, and then the operating keys
are returned to the off position.
8-5) Workers in the maintenance department discharge the remaining energy collected in the pipes,
such as compressed air - steam - compressed gases or residual electric charges in capacitors.
Fig no.2
8-6) The official of the maintenance department or his representative, in coordination with the official of the site in
which the equipment is located, and as possible, shall secure the closure of the motive power sources from the
equipment by means of chains and locks, each lock is different from the other, and each of them shall keep his own
key, if there is a possibility to do so and if it is not If this is possible the following is done:
8-6-1) Close the electrical switch for operating the equipment and place it on the off position of the electrical
switchboard.
8-6-2) close the valves for air, compressed gases and steam.
Fig no.03
Fig no.04
8-7) The maintenance official, in cooperation with the site official, places a (Tag) plate next to the electrical
switchboard or the valves that have been closed and put it on the (Off) position stating that these switches and
valves have been closed due to the existence of maintenance work on the equipment and the non-return of the
motive power to these equipment or opening valves except by authorized persons.
8-8) After performing steps 6 and 7 above, Form No. 1 (Equipment Permit for Isolation of Motor Power from
Equipment and Machines EHS/S/00/01) is filled out by the maintenance official and the site official and signed,
and the site official keeps a copy, a copy delivered to the maintenance department and a copy to the Safety
Department Occupational health and environmental affairs.
8-9) after that, the workers in the maintenance department begin to repair and maintain the equipment, and before
doing that, they try to operate the equipment to make sure for the last time that the motive power sources are
isolated from it, and then the operating keys are returned to the (Off) position and start working.
8-10) the above steps are also performed and under the supervision of the maintenance department in the event that
one of the contractors works with the equipment.
8-11) In the event that the work is not completed during one shift and will continue to the next shift, the employees
of the next shift are notified of the followed steps, and the site official and the maintenance officer in the next shift
sign the form EHS/S/00/01 and the work continues.
8-12) The Occupational Safety, Health and Environmental Affairs official during the daily safety tours ensures that
the above steps are implemented in the event of any maintenance and repair work on the equipment.
8-13) After completing the work, the site official in coordination with the maintenance official and after making
sure that there is no person near the equipment, opens the locks (if locks are used) and restores the electric current
by placing the keys in the electrical panels on the (On) position and opening the gas / air valves / Steam also
remove tags.
8-14) the equipment is operated from its operating keys in the presence of the site official and the maintenance
official.
