1.0 INTRODUCTION
These instructions contain the information necessary to inspect and maintain the
AERONAUTICAL ACCESSORIES HIGH VISIBILITY DOOR KIT (reference
Table 1) on Bell Helicopter Textron model 407 helicopters installed in
accordance with STC SR09376RC-D.
Table 1 lists High Visibility Door Kits by kit part number. .
Table 2 lists approved High Visibility Door Kit installation configurations. Table 3
lists approved High Visibility Door Kit installation configuration combinations.
Approved installation configuration combinations are shown on Figures 1 thru 4.
Installation of (407-583-001 / 407-583-003) High Visibility Litter Door and Fixed

Panel Window Kit (reference Table 2) requires installation of (407-579-001,

1.1 DISTRIBUTION
These instructions are provided with each High Visibility Door Kit. Any
airworthiness of flight safety revisions will be immediately made available to all
affected High Visibility Door Kit owners.
1.2 REVISION
A Log of Revision section is included in these instructions and will be utilized to

document all changes. Change recommendations should be submitted to:

2.0 DESCRIPTION
The Aeronautical Accessories High Visibility Door Kit consists of replacement
doors that incorporate an expanded and bulged window which provides
additional visibility and shoulder room over the standard 407 doors and a
replacement fixed panel window. From a maintenance standpoint, the
Aeronautical Accessories High Visibility Door is a standard model 407 door that
has been modified to accept the expanded and bulged window, (approximate 4”
bulge). Existing door latches, hinges, and lock mechanisms are retained in the
standard locations, while passenger door handles have been relocated to
provide room for the expanded window.
3.0 MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

3.1 PREFLIGHT CHECK
The High Visibility Door shall receive a Preflight check. Check for proper
operation of the High Visibility Doors, proper installation of hardware, seal

for inspection. If any damage is noted during the Preflight

Troubleshooting Information. Ensure the damage limits
presented in Table 4 are not exceeded. Replace parts as
required.
The Preflight check consists of the following items:
1. Check windows for condition (i.e., clouding, crazing) and replace as required.
2. Check the High Visibility Doors for nicks, scratches, cracks, or hardware
corrosion.
NOTE
The indications of corrosion are 1) corrosion deposits (a white
or gray power on aluminum or rust colored deposits on steel),
2) pits in the aluminum or steel surface, 3) blisters, bulging or
flaking of protective coatings.
3. Check the attaching fasteners for condition and security.
4. Check the door for proper operation (i.e., opening from inside and outside
aircraft, latching).
5. Sliding Door Only: Check Sliders, Brackets, and Tracks for condition and

3.2 ANNUAL INSPECTION

NOTE
Section 3.2 contains Annual Inspection Procedures for High
Visibility Hinge-Mounted Doors. For Annual Inspection
Procedures for High Visibility Sliding Doors, refer to
Instructions for Continued Airworthiness, Report AA-01157,
Revision B, or later approved revisions.
The Hinged High Visibility Doors shall receive an annual inspection consisting of
the following items:
1. Complete the Preflight Check listed in Section 3.1.
2. Check the torque value (snug only, not to exceed 7 in-lbs.) on the attaching
hardware around the window assemblies and adjust as required.
3. Check door latches for simultaneous engagement during the opening,
closing and latching process. Adjust latch linkage as required.
4. Utilize the Inspection Record provided in Appendix A to document Inspection
completion.

3.3 REPAIR
NOTE
From a repair standpoint Aeronautical Accessories High
Visibility Doors are standard 407 doors that have been
modified to accept the expanded and bulged window. The
remaining door frame and all existing door latches, hinges, and
locking mechanism are retained in the standard locations and
should be repaired in accordance with the latest revision of the
Bell Helicopter Textron 407 Maintenance Manual
(BHT-407-MM). The door handle is also part of the original
door, but has been relocated and modified to provide room for
the expanded window. Repair of these items and the window
and added aluminum parts should be carried out in
accordance with this report.
Repair scratches, nicks, and corrosion as follows:
1. On metal components, lightly polish affected area using Scotch-Brite pad.

Ensure the limits presented in Table 4 are not exceeded. Take care to
remove as little of the component protective coating as possible.
NOTE
If damage to cable assembly is present, replace assembly.
2. After repair of the aluminum components, clean repaired area with isopropyl
alcohol and match existing finish.
3. On acrylic window components, lightly polish affected area using a

non-abrasive cloth or paper and a fine polishing compound appropriate for
acrylic windows, such as 3M 606. Ensure the limits presented in Table 4 are
not exceeded. Take extreme care to remove as little of the component
surface as possible as distortion of the window could result from this
process.
NOTE
If window cracks are present, replace window. Crack repairs
are not authorized.
3.4 CLEANING REQUIREMENTS
Any dirt, sand, or debris should be cleaned from the High Visibility Door windows
and Fixed Panel Window using a mild, non-abrasive soap, such as Brillianize by
Norel Plastic, and clean particulate free water. Dry with a clean, damp chamois.
A soft tissue may be used, providing care is taken not to continue rubbing after
plastic is dry.

5.1 REMOVAL – HINGE MOUNTED HIGH VISIBILITY DOORS
1. Open R/H High Visibility Passenger Door and, if equipped with Automatic
Door Opener, remove safety clips securing the gas cylinder ends to the ball
studs. Gently pry the gas cylinder loose from the ball studs.
2. Remove and retain the nuts and washers from the screws securing the
upper and lower passenger door hinges.
3. Holding open the passenger door so that no weight is on hinges, remove and
retain the screws and washers from the upper and lower door hinges.
4. Remove R/H High Visibility Passenger Door from airframe. R/H passenger
door removal complete.
5. Open L/H High Visibility Passenger Door and, if equipped with Automatic
Door Opener, remove safety clips securing the gas cylinder ends to the ball

to L/H and R/H High Visibility Passenger Doors. .
NOTE
If Litter Door was removed, it must be installed prior to
installing L/H High Visibility Passenger Door. See Section
5.2.1 for High Visibility Litter Door installation procedures.
1. Holding the door in the open position with the upper and lower hinges
inserted into the airframe mounted hinge clevises, install the retained screws
and washers. Install the retained washers and nuts to secure hinges to
clevises. Torque screws 15 – 20 in-lbs.
2. Close the door and latch to ensure proper adjustment.
3. Once door is closing properly, and if equipped with an Automatic Door

Opener, open door and install gas cylinder onto ball studs. Install safety
clips to retain ends of gas cylinder on the ball studs.
4. High Visibility Passenger Door installation complete.
5.2.1 INSTALLATION – HIGH VISIBILITY LITTER DOOR

1. Holding the door in the open position with the upper and lower hinges
inserted into the airframe mounted hinge clevises, install the retained screws
and washers. Install the retained washers and nuts to secure hinges to
clevises. Torque screws 15 – 20 in-lbs.
2. Close the door and latch to ensure proper adjustment.
3. High Visibility Litter Door installation complete.
5.3 REMOVAL – HIGH VISIBILITY DOOR WINDOW

CAUTION
The process of removing a window from this type of door
is a very sensitive procedure and should be attempted
with caution and great care, otherwise serious window
damage could result.
1. If installed, remove interior door trim.
2. Remove and retain the existing hardware attaching the window. Carefully
remove the bead of sealant filling the gap around the window.
3. Obtain a 36-inch piece of .032 diameter safety wire. Work the safety wire
between the window and the door frame. Once the safety wire is in place, it
can be used as a saw to cut the adhesive tape surrounding the window (See
Figure 5).
CAUTION
DO NOT flex, pry, or otherwise cause any stress to the
window during this process, as cracking may occur as a
result.
4. Remove the window and use a plastic putty knife and lacquer thinner to
clean the adhesive tape and sealant off the door flange.
5. Clean the door flange to allow proper bonding of the double sided tape as
follows:
a. Use a soft cloth and aliphatic naphtha or equivalent to clean the

surface.
b. Clean the area with detergent and cool water.
c. Lightly abrade the surface with fine sandpaper.
d. Rinse the area with cool water and towel off. Allow the area to air dry.
6. Clean the window edge to allow proper bonding of the double sided tape as
follows:
CAUTION
Do not use solvents such as acetone, benzene, carbon
tetrachloride, fire extinguisher fluid, dry cleaning
compounds, lacquer thinners, aliphatic naphtha, window
sprays or kitchen scouring compounds on the acrylic
plastic as permanent damage may result.
a. Clean the area with a light detergent and cool water.
b. Lightly abrade the surface with fine sandpaper. Do not remove the
fiberglass edging surrounding the window.
c. Rinse the area with cool water and towel off. Allow the area to air dry.
7. Removal complete.
5.4 INSTALLATION – HIGH VISIBILITY DOOR WINDOW
The installation of this window will require the procurement of 4949.75 Double
Sided Tape (135 inches for passenger door, 105 inches for litter door).
1. Carefully apply the Double Sided Tape by progressively peeling the covering
from one side of the tape and adhering it to the door flange where the
previously installed tape was located.
CAUTION
The double sided tape should be carefully placed as it is
difficult to remove once it is adhered.
2. Without removing the outer covering on the tape, position the High Visibility
Door Window into place on the door frame and insert spacers and screws
into two of the securing holes around the outer edge. With the window flush,
use a grease pencil or equivalent to mark lines on the window across to the
door frame, as shown in Figure 6. This will facilitate easy location of the
window onto the tape during final installation. Remove the screws and the
window.
3. Remove the covering on the tape. Use screws or bolts, (AN3XX or

MS27039X1-XX) 1.5 to 2.0 inches long, inserted through four of the securing
holes around the outer edge of the High Visibility Door to guide it to the
Double Sided Tape and the marks made in the above step. Carefully adhere
the window to the tape.
4. Wet-install the retained screws, washers, and spacers with sealant,

AMS-S-8802. Ensure the fasteners are installed with the screw heads
outboard.
CAUTION
To avoid window damage, screws are to be installed snug
only (not to exceed 7 in-lbs).
5. Fill the gap around the window with sealant, AMS-S-8802.
6. Touch up the paint as required.
7. If applicable, reinstall interior door trim.
8. Installation complete.
5.5 REMOVAL – HIGH VISIBILITY FIXED PANEL WINDOW

CAUTION
The process of removing this window is a very sensitive
procedure and should be attempted with caution and great
care, otherwise serious window damage could result.
1. If installed, remove interior trim.

The installation of this window will require the procurement of 92 inches of

4949.75 Double Sided Tape.
1. Carefully apply the Double Sided Tape by progressively peeling the covering
from one side of the tape and adhering it to the door flange where the
previously installed tape was located.
CAUTION
The double sided tape should be carefully placed as it is
difficult to remove once it is adhered.
2. Without removing the outer covering on the tape, position the Fixed Panel
Window into place on the aircraft frame and insert spacers and screws into
two of the securing holes around the outer edge. With the window flush, use
a grease pencil or equivalent to mark lines on the window across to the door
frame, as shown in Figure 6. This will facilitate easy location of the window
onto the tape during final installation. Remove the screws and the window.
3. Remove the covering on the tape. Use screws or bolts, (AN3XX or

MS27039X1-XX) 1.5 to 2.0 inches long, inserted through four of the securing
holes around the outer edge of the Fixed Panel Window to guide it to the
Double Sided Tape and the marks made in the above step. Carefully adhere
the window to the tape.
4. Wet-install the retained screws, washers, and spacers with sealant,

AMS-S-8802. Ensure the fasteners are installed with the screw heads
outboard.
CAUTION
To avoid window damage, screws are to be installed snug
only (not to exceed 7 in-lbs).
5. Fill the gap around the window with sealant, AMS-S-8802.
6. Touch up the paint as required.
5.7 REMOVAL – INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE

(Refer to Figure 7)
1. Locate and gain access to 407-609-101 Interior Handle Assembly.
2. Remove 407-658-121 Handle by removing and retaining two (2)

MS27039C1-21 Screws, two (2) 407-658-125 Trim Spacers, and two (2)
407-658-122 Spacers. Retain 407-658-121 Handle.
3. If removing 407-658-101 Mount, Interior Handle, remove and retain

407-588-123 / -124 Passenger Door Panel per BHT-407-MM. Drill out six (6)
CR3523-4-2 Rivets.
4. Remove and retain 407-658-101 Mount, Interior Handle.
5. Remove any adhesive residue by gently scraping area with a plastic putty
knife.
5.8 INSTALLATION – INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE

(Refer to Figure 7)
1. Locate and gain access to 407-609-101 Interior Handle Assembly installation

location.
2. If not reinstalling or replacing 407-658-101 Mount, Interior Handle, skip to

step 6.
3. To install 407-658-101 Mount, Interior Handle, remove and retain

407-588-123 / -124 Passenger Door Panel (if installed) per BHT-407-MM.
4. Coat faying surface of 407-658-101 Mount, Interior Handle with 099-050-121

Adhesive.
5. Install 407-658-101 Mount, Interior Handle, using six (6) CR3523-4-2 Rivets
wet with 099-050-121 Adhesive.
6. If removed, reinstall 407-588-123 / -124 Passenger Door Panel per

BHT-407-MM.
7. Locate mounting holes and attach retained 407-658-121 Handle using

retained two (2) 407-658-122 Spacers, two (2) 407-658-125 Trim Spacers,
and two (2) MS27039C1-21 Screws.

Inspect the High Visibility Door Kit in accordance with Section 3.2 Annual
Inspection. Inspect High Visibility Passenger Doors in accordance with
Instructions for Continued Airworthiness, Report AA-01157, Revision B, or later
approved revisions.
1. Check windows for condition (i.e., clouding, crazing) and replace as

required.
2. Check the High Visibility Door Kit for nicks, scratches, cracks, or
hardware corrosion.
NOTE
The indications of corrosion are 1) corrosion
deposits (a white or gray power on
aluminum or rust colored deposits on steel),
2) pits in the aluminum or steel surface, 3)
blisters, bulging or flaking of protective
coatings.
3. Check the attaching fasteners for condition and security.

4. Check the torque value (snug only, not to exceed 7 in-lbs.) on the
attaching hardware around the window assembly and adjust as
required.
5. Check the doors for proper operation (i.e., opening, latching, locking).
6. Check door latches for simultaneous engagement during the closing
and latching process. Adjust latch linkage as required.
