CONSUMPTION FRENZY

One of the vastest problems of our age is unnecessary consumption frenzy. The fact
that companies constantly innovate in order to market their products better, which they follow
the needs and desires of the people very well and make changes in the products in this way,
the application of tactics that will attract the consumer in advertisements and make the
product desirable even if it is not needed, is a major factor in the increase of the consumption
frenzy. It is also known that the hidden messages given in some advertisements are
prepared with the support of psychologists, especially to affect the subconscious. However,
the most important reason why we are such a crazy consumer society are social problems
and herd psychology affecting the majority of the society. Instead of reading books, taking
care of nature, doing artistic activities such as theater, ballet, opera, visiting historical places,
participating in exhibitions and cultural events in our spare time, we have become a society
by investing their children in dirty iron shopping carts, touring markets, shopping malls. When
we look at the programs with the most commercials on TV, there is never an excessive
advertisement in a documentary or a cultural program. Nevertheless, you cannot watch the
program from commercials in TV series and game shows. Because the sale of products
depend on advertising to many people, and a society that does not prefer different cultural
and artistic activities in its daily life will display the same attitude on television. Now, the fact
that many products can be purchased easily on the internet causes excessive consumption,
especially among young people. Choosing many products on the computer without getting
tired of and coming to the door offer great shopping convenience. In particular, the outbreak
of the corona virus and people being stuck in homes brought another dimension to the
consumption frenzy. During this pandemic period, people sought differences. Some decided
to alter their home’s belongings, others started to purchase new clothes. The impact of the
economy due to the epidemic caused an increase in the prices of many products. Despite
this situation, people have not hesitated to shop. Oniomania definitely associated the
consumption frenzy. It emerges in the form of crises of uncontrolled, dependent, and
excessive shopping. This addiction manifests as an unbearable desire to shop and a failure
to resist. In this disease, people experience pleasure, satisfaction, and relaxation during
shopping, and feel great tension and uneasiness if they cannot shop. They also experience
feelings of regret, self-condemnation, or guilt for spending a lot of money after shopping. As I
mentioned before, advertisements are one of the most effective weapons of the shopping
industry. The hours we spend on the internet or Tv, in our hands, trigger this addiction to a
great extent. The advertisements that you come across, especially on social media according
to your interests, involuntarily drag you to shop. Especially with the advertising policies of
brands that direct ‘more consumption’, everything from the foods you will never love to eating
or buying clothes that will wait to be worn in your closet with the label you will never put on
your back are planned to bring you a little closer to being a society that only consumes. To
sum up, I can say It is the right behavior to act by taking the harms of disproportionate
consumption waste.

Six lions have been found dead and mutilated in one of Uganda's best-known
national parks, with wildlife traffickers suspected of having poisoned the big cats.
The lion carcasses were found in the Queen Elizabeth National Park in the
country's west with most of their body parts missing and surrounded by dead
vultures, suggesting poison was at play, officials said on Saturday.
The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) said it was "saddened" by the death of
these particular lions, known for their unusual ability to climb trees in the famous
reserve.
"Given that some of the body parts of the lions are missing, we cannot rule out
illegal wildlife trafficking," UWA's communications manager Bashir Hangi said in
a statement.
