Practice Task 1

Direction: As a researcher, your mood is also important while you are writing your output. Set your
mood first before you move on to the next task.

STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES

or
1.Applying well-established standards which means that the research can be replicated
and then analyzed and compared with similar studies.
2.The research is often carried out in an unnatural, artificial environment so that a
level of control can be applied to the exercise.

3.The development of standard questions by researchers can lead to "structural bias"

and false representation.

4.You can summarize vast sources of information and can make some comparisons
across categories and over time.

5.Allows for a broader study, involving a greater number of subjects, and enhancing
the generalization of the results

6.Results are limited as they provide numerical descriptions rather than detailed
narrative and generally provide less elaborate accounts of human perception.

7.Uses a static and rigid approach and so employs an inflexible process of discovery,

8.Personal bias can be avoided by keeping a 'distance' from participating subjects and
using accepted computational techniques.
9.Researcher may collect a much narrower and sometimes superficial dataset

10.Allows for greater objectivity and accuracy of results.

Practice Task 2

Direction: Put a  if the indicator describes the characteristics of a Quantitative Research or  if

doesn’t. Write your answers on a separate sheet of paper which will serve as your answer sheet. Be sure
not to write anything on this learning module

Indicators.  or
1. Data is in the form of words, pictures or objects. 
2. The data is usually gathered using structured research instruments. 
3. It is not based upon numerical measurements and does not use numbers and 
statistical methods as key research indicators and tools.
4. It tends to be associated with small-scale studies and a holistic perspective. 
5. The research study can usually be replicated or repeated, given its high 
reliability.
6. Data are in the form of numbers and statistics, often arranged in tables, charts, 
figures, or other non-textual forms.
7. Emphasis is on discovery rather than proof. 
8. The results are based on larger sample sizes that are representative of the 
population.
9. It tends to be associated with emergent research design, using a wide range of 
approaches
10. Researcher has a clearly defined research question to which objective answers 
are sought.
Practice Task 3

Direction: Write your answers on a separate sheet of paper which will serve as your answer
sheet. Be sure not to write anything in this learning module.

During our junior high it was explained to us that there are different strands in senior high and in all
strands HUMMS is my first choice because being a teacher is my dream, but when I found out that it
didn't have mathematics when it came to grade 12. I suddenly thought, because how can I hone my
math skills if my studies are not focused on it. When I came to college I will get secondary education, I
wanted to be a teacher with a major in mathematics/English, so I chose to go to the STEM strand. In my
first year as a STEM student things didn’t go well. I have a hard time studying those times I can’t keep up
with the discussion because there is no gadget, no internet, I am not focused because home is not like
school where you can just focus on studying because you went to study as opposed to house with a lot
of work especially if there is another sibling to take care of. But because of my teachers who are
considerate I finished grade 11 with a passing mark and that's what I can say the interesting thing about
being a STEM student is to have a passionate teacher. In the STEM strand, as I said, you focus on the
math subject, but what makes me more interested in STEM are the other subjects discussed here that I
know will help me a lot in sharpening my mind and skills. So that I am ready for everything that I will
encounter in the future. It’s relevance because it teaches critical thinking skills and instills a passion for
innovation. STEM strand is relevant because it gives people skills that make them more employable and
ready to meet the current labor demand. It encompasses the whole range of experiences and skills. Each
STEM component brings a valuable contribution to a well-rounded education. Science gives learners an
in-depth understanding of the world around us. the more I choose the stem strand, the more it
strengthens my ability to better understand very complex events that really need to take time to
understand the message or meaning it wants to convey. So it has had relivance to all the events that I
encounter every day in my life I can apply what I learn to the STEM strand I walk. in fact I know in myself
that it really helped me because now somehow I have the courage to be calm especially when facing
other people because when will I get rid of the shy habit, especially and I was able to study online, I also
realized that nothing will happen if I continue to do the habits and activities I have been accustomed to,
so because of that I am here and have the courage to face what may happen whether it is pleasant or
not. This last year of being a stem student I am deepening what I have learned and what I can still learn
. Post-Test

Direction: Write the letter of the correct answer on the space before the number. Write your
answers on a separate sheet of paper which will serve as your answer sheet. Be sure not to
write anything on this learning module.

_____ 1. Which of the following BEST defines quantitative research?

A. An activity of producing or proving theorem

B. An exploration associated with libraries, books, and journals

C. A systematic process for obtaining numerical data and its relationship with events

D. An activity concerned with finding new truths in education.

For items 2-5, refer to the following characteristics of research for your answers

A. Large Sample Sizes

B. Replication

C. Numerical Data

D. Objective

C 2. Data are in the form of statistics.

A 3. It is needed to arrive at a more reliable data analysis.

D 4. It is not based on guess work.

B 5. It is done to check the correctness and verify the findings of the study

For items 6-9, refer to the following kinds of quantitative research for your answers

A. Descriptive Research

B. Correlational Research
C. Experimental Research

D. Quasi-Experimental Research

B 6. It is a quantitative method of research in which you have 2 or more quantitative variables from
the same group of subjects.

D 7. It involves selecting groups, upon which a variable is tested, without any random pre-selection
processes.

A 8. It is a study designed to depict the participants in an accurate way.

C 9. It is a collection of research designs which use manipulation and controlled testing to

understand causal processes.

_____10. It is an in-depth study of an individual or group of individuals.

A. Observational B. Survey C. Case Study D. Interview

Assignment/Additional Activities

1. Do you agree or disagree that research is essential in your day-to-day activities as a student? State
your reasons for your stand.

I agree that research is essential in our day-to-day activities because as a student we don't know
everything yet that's why we study and this research is one of the things that helps us to have a
basis for correct and sufficient information.

2. What is the impact of research to you as an individual?

What the research has done for me is that I have an instant source of information that I want to
know and it also improves the expansion of my vocabulary.

3. Why does a student-researcher need to set an objective prior to the conduct of research?

In fact, student researchers really need the objectives because they serve as guidelines and also
serve as the basis for how the research will flow smoothly.

4. Is it important to use structural research instrument? Why? Give at least two research instruments
and briefly describe each.

Yes it is important because research instrument is a tool use to obtain, measure and analyze
data from subjects around the research topic.

5. Which kind of research design is appropriate to use in your field of specialization?

DESCRIPTIVE RESEARCH

1. Importance of Research to you as a student (Write your answers on a separate sheet of paper which
will serve as your answer sheet. Be sure not to write anything on this learning module.)
As a student the importance of research is that it expands the knowledge and memory of the
student, it also strengthens the ability to solve mathematic problems and it also expands the
understanding of complex situations.

2. Importance of Research in other different fields (Write your answers on a separate sheet of paper
which will serve as your answer sheet. Be sure not to write anything on this learning module.)

It plays an important role in discovering new treatments, and making sure that we use existing
treatments in the best possible ways. Research can find answers to things that are unknown,
filling gaps in knowledge and changing the way that healthcare professionals work.
