Stepping Into Internship Program - Position Description

The Australian Network on Disability’s Stepping Into program is a paid internship scheme that
matches talented university students with disability with roles in leading Australian businesses.

Societe Generale has been present in Australia since 1981. Located in Sydney, Societe Generale
obtained its Australian banking licence in May 2019 and the organisation’s activities are focussed
on client coverage delivering in structured finance including energy, metals & mining, infrastructure
finance, debt capital markets, asset-back products, loan syndications and commercial real estate
finance. Societe Generale supports its Australian wholesale clients in their financing and advisory
needs, and to serve its global clients who wish to access the Australian market with global banking
services. Societe Generale also provides its global markets solutions by offering futures execution
and clearing, equity derivatives sales and structured product distribution.

We are currently recruiting a Global Banking and Finance Intern who will have the opportunity to
experience the day to day operations of a Global Investment Bank and work alongside teams in
our Global Finance business lines. This is an exciting opportunity to experience a fast-paced,
results focused, global organisation that values diversity.

During the placement, the successful candidate will participate in a rotational program within our
Global Banking business lines and will be partnered alongside senior managers in the Global
Banking and Finance team/s to experience business operations from the inside. The intern will
contribute to meaningful outcomes that impact the business and its clients and will have the
opportunity to work on real-life projects.

The successful candidate will have the chance to gain exposure to client deals, deal processes
and procedures, corporate transactions and structured finance work. They will acquire meaningful
insights into working with a large global organisation as part of a key country platform with multiple
interactions with regional and global teams.

Major accountabilities/principal responsibilities:

The successful candidate will gain exposure to:

1. All aspects of a client deal and transaction process which includes:

 Undertaking market research on active and prospective deals the organisation is working
on;

 Assisting in the preparation of pitch and other marketing materials to support a client
presentation;

 Supporting with financial modelling work associated with client opportunities;

 Observing the preparation of credit applications for commercial lending deals;

 Reviewing documentation and internal processes required for the closure of a transaction;

 Supporting in other processes attached to a transaction including mandatory regulatory


checks including KYC processes

2. The operations of a Global Banking team within a large global organisation, which more broadly
includes:

 Gaining experience in the lifecycle of a client transaction, across a variety of business lines
and have a broad understanding of what working in a client facing team involves.

 Gaining exposure to work which covers a wide range of financing business line activities,
across various local teams, that include client origination, structuring a client deal, financial
modelling and analysis and being exposed to documentation associated with a deal and its
execution at all stages of the client deal lifecycle

 Being involved in team meetings

 Working with Senior managers within various business units to deep dive into the various
functions within a global investment bank

 Participating in local staff meetings and events

Qualifications, experience & knowledge required

 Second/final year of a tertiary qualification in business, finance, marketing, accounting,


economics, or law

 Keen interest in finance and financial markets

 Familiarity with MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point & Outlook)


Please note that the intern will be rotated throughout the program between a series of departments
within the Global Finance and Banking team within Societe Generale. The rotation will enable the
intern to experience the various business lines within the organisation.

Position duration: TBC based on candidate flexibility/studies

Between the period mid January 2021 – February 2021 for a 4 week duration, subject to candidate
availability

Position start date: From middle of January 2021 – February 2021, however subject to candidate
availability

Onboarding requirements or HR security clearances:

The successful candidate will need to complete and submit to a background screening clearance
as part of SG compliance onboarding requirements.

Ideal Degree/Discipline
Business, finance, marketing, accounting, economics, or law

Eligibility Requirements
 Second last or final year of a relevant undergraduate or postgraduate degree

 No preference on citizenship requirements

 Identify as having disability

 Candidates may be required to undergo a background check security clearance

Please be aware that all Stepping Into internships are paid placements. The employing
organisation will pay the intern’s pro rata salary for the internship period (including
superannuation) at a rate commensurate with the duties performed and abiding by Fair Work
