Building Knowledge, Building Future

Community Project

The Philippines is ranked the lowest in reading comprehension and in

the second lowest in science and mathematics among 79 countries. The

community project is build for the reason of children’s capacity of reading. We

want to help the children to read and increase the rate of reading

comprehension in the Philippines. Building knowledge and building our future

is important to us because it is our life that we will give to ourselves, to our

family, and to the future. And, in order to assist children who cannot afford to

attend school due to the pandemic, I intend to establish a program in which

children may be assisted to learn to read in Tagalog and English Language

easier.

This project aims to help the children by teaching them to read while

instilling reading comprehension awareness among family members.

At the end of the project, the team should learn to dedicate efforts for

the children of the future, successfully help at least 20 children in reading in

the community, recognize the role of every the teacher who works hard at

their home to give service to their students.

The project are aiming to help the community of Barangay Palo-Alto,

Calamba City, Laguna on August 1-20, 2021 at 8 -10 in the morning. With the

guidance of the Barangay Chairman of the community Mr. Arvin Manguiat.

To gather some information, the team started to conduct a survey

assessment on the children’s capacity by sending a google form to the

families with children that age from 5-10 years old, and validate the data

gathered to analyze the children’s capacity while some of the members a

starting to gather reading materials (books, manila papers, markers, etc. And

ask the parents to supervise the children’s way of reading easily.

In teaching children in the time of pandemic, we all know the

importance of health protocols. So before we start to go to the community, the

team undergo a 14 day quarantine to ensure that none of the program's

members offer the community any reason not to continue assisting

youngsters.

For the materials, the team gather 30 books, 10 pcs. Of manila paper,

10 pcs. of marker, road sign flash cards, and play script that will ensure the

reading comprehension of the kids.

In this time of pandemic, we want to help the children to read and also

their parents. We all know that sometimes small piece of help will cause an

amazing impact to the person. So we should help people in our best and be

grateful to the people who help us.
