1. 1g: In mobile telephony, first-generation systems were analog, circuit-switched.

Voice links were poor, handoff unreliable, capacity low, and security non-existent.
sistema de primera generación
2. 2g: The most common type of phone nowadays. 2G phones deliver both voice and
data transmissions, but primarily focus on voice communications. Data connections
using the wireless phone are similar to dial-up connections using an older modem and
speeds are quite slow.
sistema de segunda generación
3. 3g: In mobile telephony, third-generation systems support much higher data rates,
measured in Mbps, intended for applications other than voice. 3G networks trials will
support bandwidth-hungry applications such as full-motion video, video-
conferencing and full Internet access.

chargers fully charging in eight to ten hours from beginning of cycle. They fill at a
low charge rate, and sometimes lack the safety features of preventing overcharge
because batteries can better withstand low charging current. Rapid chargers recharge
the battery or batteries more quickly. The charge is not continuous; rather, it is
reduced as the battery reaches full charge. There are also solar type cell phone battery
chargers on the market.

60. co-channel interference: It refers to the interference caused between two cells
transmitting on the same frequency within a network. Since co-channel interference
is caused by another cell transmitting the same frequency, you cannot simply filter
out the interference. You can only minimize the co-channel interference through
proper cellular network design. A cellular network must be designed to maximize the
C/I ratio. The C/I ratio is the carrier-to-co-channel interference ratio. One of the ways
to maximize the C/I ratio is to increase the frequency re-use distance, i.e., increase
the distance between cells using the same set of transmission frequencies. The C/I
ratio in part determines the frequency re-use distance of a cellular network.
interferencia cocanal
61. code division multiple access: CDMA is one of several digital wireless
transmission methods in which signals are encoded using a pseudo-random sequence
- which corresponds to a different communication channel - which the receiver also
knows and can use to decode the received signal. CDMA is one of several "spread
spectrum" techniques. CDMA offers improvements over analog transmission in the
areas of reduced call dropping, battery power conservation, more secure transmission
and increased service options.
acceso múltiple por división de código
62. codec: Short for "compressor/decompressor"; refers to the hardware in a cell phone
and in the cell network that compresses digitized voice prior to transmission, takes
received compressed voice and decompresses it prior to passing it to either a cell
phone speaker or into a wire line system. Codec allows the cell network to essentially
pass a lot of data in compressed form to permit additional users on the system and to
save bandwidth. The idea behind codec is that human voices are highly lossy and a
significant amount of the conversation can be removed since human ears can fill in
the removed gaps at the other end.
codec
63. co-location: A common site where you will find multiple antennas. For carriers to
be able to provide excellent service to the consumer, their antennas may need to be in
certain areas of a cell. Some companies will act as brokers or cell site managers. This
allows for the arranging of cell sites and coordinating many carriers' antennas at a
single cell site.

68. constructive interference: Interference that occurs when waves occupying the
same space combine to form a single stronger wave. The strength of the composite
wave depends on the how close in phase the two component waves are. For example,
if you transmitted two waves of the same phase, each with an amplitude of 10, they
would combine into a composite wave of amplitude 20, but two waves slightly out of
phase would combine into a composite wave of amplitude less than 20.

telecomunicaciones inalámbricas digitales mejoradas
84. digital modulation: A method of encoding information for transmission that will
eventually replace analog transmission. Digital modulation reduces voice to binary
code -the zeros and ones of computer language. At the receiving end, the information
is reconverted. Digital transmission offers stronger reception, less static, greater call
handling capacity, fewer dropped calls, improved call privacy, and the potential for
additional voice and data service such as fax and computer data transmission.
modulación digital
85. digital subscriber line: DSL is a digital line connecting the subscriber’s terminal
to the serving company’s central office, providing multiple communications channels
able to carry both voice and data communications simultaneously.

86. digital: A method of decoding information for transmission. Information, or in this
case, a voice conversation, is turned into a series of digital bits - the 0s and 1s of
computer binary language. At the receiving end, the information is reconverted. One
of the main advantages of digital cell phones is that they allow several cell phones in
the same area to use the same frequency simultaneously. Digital wireless technology
has been replacing analog technology, because digital delivers more capacity and
supports more applications, as well as offers better sound quality, and more secure
signals.
digital
87. direct sequence: A pseudorandom code is added to the data signal which increases
the modulation rate and signal bandwidth. This spreading of the energy over a wide
bandwidth looks like a low level signal to other users in the band. The receiver must
know the PN code transmitted and be synchronized to the code to assemble each data
bit.
