Mythology and Folklore 2:30 – 4:00 MW

Reflection

1. How should you as a student of Mythology and Folklore and a future teacher take the stories of the
Bible; would you take them literally? Explain and defend your answer/s

I agree with the statement that frank Hasel said. “Take the bible literally, but don’t take it
literalisticly” I simply mean that when we read the bible, read it with its full worth for what the text
means. We should also take into consideration of the context in which the statement is made. Like
parables, prose, and other symbolic language. Bible has different genre, It has Spiritual poetry, which is
about metaphor, symbol image and picture to inspire us and lead us to discover something in our own
spiritual journey.

2. What is literature for; explain the benefits and relevance to students and soon to be teachers like you in
relation to Mythology and Folklore?

There are ways that literature benefits us. One is it saves our time. Probably me might say that it
kills our time. Literature is a time saver for it gives us access to a range of emotions and events that
would take us years, decades, Millenia to try experience directly. It is a reality simulator. It puts us
through infinite more situations than we could ever directly witness. It introduces us to people from the
past, events happened in the past, and even take us there. it takes us across continents and centuries.
Literature also makes us nicer. It shows what you look like and share others point of view. It allows us to
see the consequences of our actions on others in a way we otherwise would not. It shows us examples
of kindness generous, sympathetic people. Literature is also a cure for loneliness. We are weirder that
we can admit. we often cannot say what is really on our minds. but in books we find descriptions of who
we genuinely are and what events are like, described with an honesty quite different from what
ordinary conversation allows for.
